C'mon... you can't tell a story like that and NOT include the pic. We gotta see!

Doc, This picture was from like a decade ago or so and the quality isn't great but I finally figured out a way to get it on here.

Yeah baby... that's what I'm talkin' bout.

I remember seeing that beast in an STS article Herzog did on where to hook up with your steelhead of a lifetime. One in a million fish, no doubt!

I kinda like it that every twenty I've ever caught came out of Washington State...and I'd sure like my first 30 to come from here, too, if it doesn't all get shut down forever before the stars align and I luck into something like that.

I've landed a handful of big hens...and when I say 'big' I mean over 18...but only one that measured into the 20's, a 40x20 on a spoon in the Duc a few years ago...I won't be surprised if I never get to hold a fish like that in my hands again, but I won't cry if it does happen smile

Stam, that B.C. hen is such a freak that it gives me the willies every time I see pics of it...unbelievable.

Fish on...

Todd

Like my hero Stam I have caught only a handful of 20 plus fish. I can honestly say I have never killed or fully measured any huge fish. My biggest I did a length measure and no girth it was 41 1/2. It really doesn't matter what it weighed. Any teen plus steelhead is a great fish, any one of those that kicks your butt is an even better fish. I have zero photos on me and huge fish. I have several of other guys holding big fish I caught. That was because I really wanted a good photo of the fish and didn’t trust my buddy to get the photo right.

Probably another thread could be done on awesome steelhead that got away. I think perhaps significant number of 20 plus fish hooked are never landed. I know my most memorable steelhead was one I lost. An even bigger percentage of lost fish that are now reported as 20 plus might not have tipped the scales that far.

I'd say take that photo down, Stam. Don't give that POS any more attention then he already got.

Makes me sick to see that photo.

spot on with that one DH.

I've caught a handful of 20+ lbers, all from WA waters but none in the last couple years. Haven't tickled the 25 lb mark yet though. My brother is a big fish magnet though. He's fished probably put in a total of 10 serious steelhead fishing days in his life and landed 3 fish over 20, including the one depicted below. Biggest one I've gotten my meathooks on so far,

fb

So many fish that people post as 20's look more like 16-18's to me............this one definitely looks over 20!!

It took me about 3-4 years to get my firts 20lb fish. I have only landed 3, 2 from the Skagit and 1 from the Situk. The elusive Sky 20lb fish has never been brought to hand, I think I have only ever had one on that size from the Snohomish system and lost it. Was rowing when 4salt landed a 22lb sky fish and watched my dad lose one in the mid 20's in Goldbar. The day I land a 20lbr from my home river (The Sky) will be a good one.

Was looking back through some pics, didn't have any notes on it....

Is this one 20?

I remember tossing a bait of eggs in the hole and whiffing the fish which felt like an aggressive large biting fish..... Next cast I pitched a whole male sandshrimp (about a 4-5"er) and he about ripped the rod out of my hand.... I still remember the acrobatic show and the ass kicking he gave me but can't seem to find his length/girth dimensions... hmmm

That was from me, not the fish. Happens all the time, unfortunately.
