I got a set of sawyer's sitting in my garage that I hang on to because everybody say's I should carry a spare.
Anybody ever break a cataract ?
Any thought's on this. ?
I'd give em away dirt cheap to someone in need depending on response.
I am In oregon but up that way quite often.

i have seen a couple broken cataracts but it's rare. the main idea behind having a spare in the boat is if you jam your oar into/behind a rock in fast moving water, it can catch, lever upward, spread your oar lock and pop out of the boat.
having a spare at the ready allows you get through the rest of the rapid in one piece and chase down the oar you lost.
in any case i still think 9'ers are too long for a raft, but that's just my opinion. Thank's never thought abought it that way, alway's just assumed it was a broken oar deal. Stuck em before but never enough to rip em out. Maybe I should be carryin one.

I use tethers on my boat and have yet to have to need them, but I still carry a spare. They are just a little insurance. just in case. -T

Or broaching a log that spins you around popping out the oar but I wouldn't know nothing about any of that.
