Do you know how long a steelhead would measure to be 40 pounds?

So how long would a 40 pound steelhead be?

49"x25.5"?

Dare I tread this slippery slope, however in talking to some commercial seiners in South East AK; they have said they catch some huge steelhead in their nets on the North End of POW. Fish in excess of 50#. That is just hear say, and without a certified scale, I/ they don't have proof of it. I can't see 40# being impossible.
Fish stories make it fun!

I have a fuzzy picture of a lady from 1984 on a lower skeena gravel bar holding a plunked deader than a doornail steelhead that was weighed hours after she caught it. It weighed 43 pounds! The picture was given to me by the owner of a Terrace BC tackle shop after I flipped out and lost it after seeing it the first time.

The first nations locals have told me time and again that they get 50 lbers every year in their nets. When I was up there last they took scale samples from a presumed 50 with many witnesses around. It was sein netted from a very famous run which I won't speak of...sorry! smile

i had no doudt that was a alantic salmon all along.

i also have no doudt that there are steelhead that push 40 lbs or exceed. they just don't enter the U.S. cause of obvious reasons.

when true gene pools are not phuked with and dams have not been built on these pure seeded rivers... yes big huge steelhead are a true possibility.
