I received a email from a friend about a great white being caught by a dog fish fisherman out of Ocean Shores. It said it weigh in at 1035 lbs. IT had a photo but I don't know how to up load it . Did any one else hear about this .?????

Snopes says it is a hoax. The shark pictured was caught off Nova Scotia.

Don't dismiss it so easily, guys.

I had a now-deceased patient who was a gillnetter in Grays Harbor who caught a monstrous Great White in the bay.

No snopes needed. I've seen the original pic at his bedside.

While it is probably unlikely, it is a possibility. A little far north, but not impossible. But non sense none the less.

I do and I hate it when those pesky salmon get in the way.

I know of 1 caught in a seine net in S.E. Alaska. Also know a guide that saw 1 off of Noyes Is. (west side of Prince of Wales Is.) Alaska.

You can find Great whites wherever you can find tuna. As far as latitides go. This far north would be rare but far from impossible.

actually it was caught inside grays harbor by BOBBY SHRIMP...

they definately come up here during el nino, one of my dads fishing buddies had one go by him off waadah island and he said it was bigger than his 15 ft. boat

Great whites do come up this way. Divers off Ediz Hook have accounts during el nino years. Wish more would come up and take care of the seals

No kiddin huh. How cool would that be to go out to the hook to watch aerial Great Whites throwing seals through the air!?! That would kick ass!

And yes, the prospect of watching that does excite me more than a little.

None of those were about the patient I was referring to.

His name was Ed Rydman, a notorious GH gillnetter. I believe there is a display about the catch at the Seattle Aquarium as well. I'll have to get the specifics of the catch from his daughter.

The jaws from the Grays Harbor shark are in the UW Fisheries fish collection (or at least they were 30 years ago).
