Did some quick math backwards.....

For the month of March:

I've had 73.5 rod hours in my boat and had 16 chances with 8 landed...

1 fish hooked every 4.6 hours
1 fish landed every 9.1 hours

Pretty pathetic considering this 470K that's supposed to show....

Looking forward in time and when the tribs start getting some fish we should be able to better those rod hours with some eggs.... thumbs

A guy I work with, fished with 4 others over by the Lewis, all day Friday, Saturday, and until 3:00pm Sunday before heading back over the Mts.

3 for 3 with two keepers.

He said out of the approximate 250 boats, they saw about 50 caught....

I hear what you that; understand what your saying. The license increase is not just upriver, lower river as welll.

I 'm fishing with family and friends. Next year we'll likely go out of state, up North.

Still not seeing the numbers to make 470K.....

We managed 3 for 3 Friday and 2 for 4 on Thurday... Nothing spectacular, except for this 24.5 pounder I tripped over...

Final for the day.....

There were a fair amount caught Friday morning before the storm but then it started blowing hard, I'd bet we seen 45mph gusts out there, power mooching!!

From ODFW

Springer fishing heating up

Spring chinook fishing in the Willamette and Columbia rivers is off to a good start, with March harvest rates reaching levels not seen in decades. Earlier predictions of a large run seem to be tracking as expected.

What's really odd is all these 25-28" 6-9 pound kings I'm seeing caught...

The gillnetters landed 3,168 and they averaged out at 12.9lbs....

Odd to see such small springers.. Ideas?

Funny how fishing goes. I talked to Clancy tonight and he said he's never seen so many big fish. Said last year a 20 was rare and this year he and Ron have gotten quite a few. He remains optimistic. Say's it was one of the best March's he has had. He and Ron have had limits or very near most days. He thinks the estimate may be low.
You know how opinions are, we all have one. No telling the how this will all wash out. but its always fun to guess.

They must have some special big fish bait or some scales with some freshly oiled springs..... rofl

No doubt there's fish around and by all means it's been good, but not 470K good, not even close. If we had those numbers it would be a no brainer to go out to the Big C and have 20 fish days, day in and day out... CR springers tend to stage and we don't have that many fish staging in the lower CR yet... If there were the netters would have slaughtered them. Maybe they're coming but I'll gamble on some lottery tickets before I buy into mythical 470K...

Again, I'd love to see the figures. I've got some red hot eggs I'd like to take out and do some back bouncing with. I'll light them up on the Big C with them if they come.... It will be like shad fishing...
