is it true that the only thing 2 engineers can agree on is that the 3rd engineer is full of [censored]?

ok, so much for the lack of humor

i may need the services of one of you fellows that can draw up a rainwater mitigation pit for my new house
bucket would be the man of choice as it will be in south kitsap on mullenix ridge but i'm not sure who does what and i'm damn sure the county will be a pita to deal with
anyway, if your game or know somebody that is?
please let me know
tia

If you want to make it more complicated then it really should be, Involve an engineer. Truly masters of making things really difficult. I've been unfortunate enough to have dealt with more then I want to admit. Only use one if your required to.

Thanks Andy.

I agree with Stam, I would call NoFish. I am out of Olympia and IMO you are best served by hiring your engineers locally so that they know the building officials and current regs in the area. I have heard that NoFish's outfit is top of the heap in Kitsap Co. I would start there.

Gatorgetter - A consulting engineer's job is not to make things more difficult, it is to make things meet the code, and still be constructable (is that a word?). The code is the code (and it can sometimes be difficult to deal with), it is written by a bunch of nerdy proffessors, who never have to hustle up work, or worry about losing a job, or account to anyone, they are 'funded'.

If an engineer understands how things are constructed, they generally will design things that can be constructed. You should hire those kinds, and maybe your attitude will change.

If you dont like the code you are more than welcome to do the research to change it. Oh yeah................you have to become nerdy and unaccountable for that.

LOL. I got the nerdy down.

I just heard my boss on the phone outside my office this morning he said: "Don't blame me for the code, it's legislative, you voted for it." He was talking to a steel erection contractor.

RR, I believe I said that if you need one then so be it. From my prospective most engineers are damn close to the nerdy professors. I did say most and have met a few that really did understand that making it work on paper can be totally different then making it work in the real world. Like I said I have met a few that understood the concept beyond the engineering part.

My post was not meant to dish against engineers. If the shoe fits wear it. If you really need one then>

What's really fun is an engineer and a machinist in the front of the same driftboat! As a buyer I can poke at both of them. Hell if either one knew how to do their job I wouldn't have a job smile

Having worked with engineers, some are great and work with you, and others design to make it sure it passes, which means you are surely over designing and in the end way over paying. In one case I remember looking at a road design and asking the county, why would anyone do this. He just smiled and said, hey, we don't tell you if you are an idiot, only that it passes.

I am in awe that this phrase didn't throw this thread into a Beavis and Buttheadesque giggle fest, especially given that it is on the "Dark Side." Please don't let me start it down that road.
