I need to get a couple of hands free cell devices for my rigs.
Got a verbal warning from a cop the other day about talking on the cell when driving.
I figure I better get this done before the June 10th rush starts with the new law.
Not a big fan of the over the ear type bluetooth headsets. Seems I either lose them or forget them.
I'd like something that will be in the vehicle all the time up on the sun visor.
Any suggestions on brands?
Thanks,
SF

Not sure what it is called, but there is a system that links into your cars radio that i've heard works pretty well..

Stop by cartoys. I got one set up in my wifes rig that runs through the sound system. Works great. It was expensive but as stated it works good. Made for an easy mothers day gift as well. Just a small microphone and a button that mounts next to the radio. Can not remember the brand right now but I think they only had one so that should narrow it down.

Put one in my F350 few years ago. Got a 18 in flex pedestal that the phone clipped into and wired it into the trucks system and the mike was on the sun visor. Incoming call when you hit the phone it turned the music radio off and back on when you killed the call. Best to have have someone install it though as your diving into the rigs wiring harness.

Down side was if you had the window open it picked up the noise and everyone in the rig can listen to the call. Otherwise it is earpiece time.

Got a Jabra Cruiser for mine. It clips to the visor/overhead console. Works alone or through your car radio.

Cool thing about it is you can listen to iPod/Pandora music on your phone over your car's stereo system.

http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Jabra/na-us/Headsets/Pages/JabraCRUISER.aspx?productfamilytab=Overview

It was about $100 IIRC. I figured it'd be a lot cheaper than a ticket in the long run.

Working in the industry, I've found the best device to also be the cheapest one:

rofl

In all seriousness, I think a phone with a good speakerphone ( like Blackberry) is best.

BlueAnt Supertooth 3. $65 on Amazon. No need for FM radio. Portable to any vehicle. Setup in minutes. Recognizes your phone before you even get in the car. My wife loves hers.

What works best for me while driving with a cell phone is the ON/OFF button. wink

The best one I saw is taking your cell phone and duct taping it to your steering wheel and put it on speaker.

It really doesn't matter, because in this "nanny" state of ours, the next new driving laws will include......

No eating while driving.
No talking to a passenger while driving.
No changing your radio/CD while driving.
No expressions while driving.

I wish it was that easy. When your income depends on customers being able to get in touch with you, turning the cell off isn't an option. Especially in this economy. I do turn mine off while I'm fishing. wink

Thanks for all the suggestion.

Sky-Guy, do you know of any places that sell 4X size rubber bands?
I'll need them to make that work with my large melon. grin

Glad to see you got your priorities straight. I currently use the speaker phone if needed as I refuse to do the ear piece thing. I didn't know about the June deadline so this thread is timely for me too. Guess I'll have to do a little more research and see if I want/need to take the next step up from just relying on the speaker phone.
