The problem with people of the extremes is that they drink down stream from the herd.

Is there a better way to write that sentence? If so, please show me the correct way.

Well frankie... you could start with the proper spelling of the word "THEIR."
"There" would be proper if you said," Look, the village idiot is over there."
"THEIR" is the possessive... as in "THEIR idiot."
So... the proper way to write that sentence would be, "Somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing their idiot."
Hope that helps?

Hope that helps? Wrong. Salmo g. has the correct sentence structure, but for the wrong reason. Nice try, though.

I didn't like the condescending tone in Dan S., Chuck S. and John Lee Hookum's posts so I thought if I'd see if they, or anyone else, knew how to structure the sentence correctly.

Ok frankie... since you so are grammatically astute, which possessive would be proper to use in this sentence?
The neighborhood committee focused their attention on the election results.
Or:
The neighborhood committee focused its attention on the election results.
The structure is similar to the the original sentence in that a village, as well as a neighborhood committee can be either a collective or a singular entity.
I believe that the use of the word "their" in the original sentence is acceptable, but you do not.

I believe that the use of the word "their" in the original sentence is acceptable, but you do not. A. They're called pronouns, not possessives. B. A committee and a village are both singular nouns. Therefore the pronouns replacing them need to be singular. C. You can believe whatever you want, but you're wrong.
