http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Stocks-end...set=&ccode=Just a few weeks ago some were complaining about how stocks were in the toilet. If one had bought a market basket fund they would have made roughly 7% in one month. My point? None, except to say nobody can accurately predict what the market will do.

Hank: If I knew I would be wealthy. Please reread the last line of my previous post. Are you conservatives always this negative? It’s like your rooting against America. (In case you can't understand sarcasm that is a reference to similar comment made by conservatives when folks bitched about the state of the country under Bush.)

Hank----Dave is correct....everything is just ph uckin' peachy with the economy.
That's why the liberals spend so much time trying to convince the sane folks (Republicans) just how ph uckin' peachy it is.
If they say it enough it must be true.

Christ Himself could show up on the lower eastside right now and the R's would either have him arrested or declared mentally incompetent just to make sure it didn't happen on Obama's watch.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Since pre '29 it is the only investment instrument I know of that has made 10% gain. That sounds pretty predictable over the long run. Short term ups & downs driven by traders are what make the fringe cringe. Ducker!

Hank: You asked "What do you think the market will do in August?" Well, I still don’t know, but this was a damn good start. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100802/ap_on_bi_st_ma_re/us_wall_streetContrary to what some think. I'm not a cheerleader for this economy. I just like to point out that those who predict the short term market are simply guessing. Long term the market has produced pretty steady gains for 75 years or more. Those who try to time the market usually end up losers. The market moves only in response to fear and greed. Right now greed is on top.

Sorry, but I don't believe this or any other administration can make the market behave the way they want elections or not. I can find numerous examples where the markets did just the opposite of what the administration wanted, most recently at the end of the Bush administration. And I doubt the state of the market has all that much effect on the electorate. Fear and greed, nothing more. If you read the article you will see that market prognosticators credit the recent run-up to good economic reports from Europe and China. I don’t think Obama can influence them that much. Fear and greed. What will it do tomorrow? Who knows? If there is good news it will go up. If bad news it will go down. If I could get a copy of the Wall street Journal for next Friday I would be a rich man.

gas will hit 3.40 before fall ...and if we end up with a Republican controlled Congress (fat chance, I still say), then two years later gas will drop 60 cents in the months before the elections...no, it won't be a coincidence. Fish on... Todd

Those of you who are certain the administration is forcing the market higher should take advantage of it and jump in and make some money. The only sure way to make money short term is if you know which way the market will go.
Hank, you seem to be sure it will head down. I suggest you start selling short. You can make money on the market no matter which way it goes. You just have to guess right.

While fear & greed do drive the market on the short term, choosing solid growing companies over time is where the stability is. I believe the get rich quick stuff rarely works over time. P.T.Barnum said it best! That said, do you ever think the pet rocks will come back, sure would like to get in on the ground floor. Ducker!

Arguing over how fast the recovery is going, vs. how fast the decline was under Bush...those are different arguments altogether. I'd rather have people worrying about the strength or speed of the recovery than watch everything just go in the $hitter like it did under Dumbya.

"Left wingbats cant ever get it right can ya NEW YORK (AP) -- The stock market's big rally went on hold Tuesday after disappointing earnings and economic reports raised investors' concerns about the strength of the recovery" Well at least you used the word "recovery". Now if you could just think hard about what and who we are recovering from then you may just get your head out of the sand yet.

The stocks are up because corporations have made cuts in expenses to make their bottom lines healthy , sales are up at some entities because their have over seas divisions that are pulling them up. To a company their US operations are flat or retreating. The near term market shows upside down shoulders pattern that is historically predicative of a catastrophic decline in the near term ( 6months). No one is certain of the outcome of the massive debt undertaking of weather inflation or deflation will be the driving event. Bottom line is that we cannot grow out of this issue in time not to see such an event, at least based on any historical data. Buckle up
