As a four year Navy veteran and another 25 years in the Air Guard Avionics Flightline Division, I can say beyond any shadow of a doubt that there are indeed idiot pilots.
So GW wasn't alone in that regard.
Just like in any profession where you have good ones, and then some not so good.

I don't know about today's all volunteer military, but in the 60s VN it was routine to hand off responsibility for million dollar equipment to 19 year old draftees, idiots or not, and many were. And that was the same time that GW and his silver spoon was flying some piece of Air Guard equipment.

I know lots of pilots, and let me assure you...........you most certainly CAN be an idiot and fly an F-102. In fact, they'll even let you fly a jet that they've loaded with 300 oblivious people.

One of my closest friends from High School joined the USAF right after graduation.

He's now an E-7 with a diamond and a year away from retirement.

According to him, USAF pilots are the biggest idiots he's ever met. Maybe its because he has to train them.

Personally, I've personally met pilots stationed at McChord AFB. One was a coke whore. Why coke? I asked... "Because it's out of my system after a few days." She replied.
