The Pondcrappers have a good shot, but there's A LOT of work ahead of them to escape Pac 10 play without a loss.

Any non-BCS conference school has no shot. If a team goes undefeated in the SEC, Boise State will be jumped. For that matter, if Alabama wins out, they will jump Boise State with their one loss. Outside the SEC, if Oklahoma or Michigan State goes undefeated, either one would jump Boise State.

To be clear, I think Boise State and TCU have proven that they are capable of competing with anyone, but because most of the teams they play are perceived to be weak, they have no hope of impressing the BCS computers enough to get into the title game.

Lots of football left to be played, so there are endless scenarios that could play out, but I'm pretty certain the powers responsible for the BCS will never allow a non-BCS team to play in the title game. I don't think this is right or fair, but there you have it.

I hope BSU, TCU and Utah all go undefeated with every other school getting at least two losses.

How pathetic is the system when the best we can hope for is total and utter chaos.

I'd love nothing more then to see the Big $$$ confrences sitting at home for the title game!!!

I think that one of the reasons that Boise and the other non-BCS teams have little chance to play for the National Championship is that they run their programs on a lot less money. The BIG BOYS sure don't want it known that you can win and spend less money.

The big boys won't schedule Boise State in their non conference games.

The reason they HAVE to run their program on less money is because they are in a second tier conference. They wouldn't go undefeated in the Pac 10 and would most liekly be an 8 win team at best. They are good but it doesn't hurt when you get to play approx. half your season against cream puffs.

Hell Willingham and Co. spanked them a few years ago.

I like them and they are fun to watch but just because you go undefeated in a weaker conference doesn't mean you are championship worthy.

But they, and Utah, seemed to do all right against the big boys in the bowls. And the "Big Boys" play their share of creampuffs.

And the 'ucks lost to them the last 2 years they played.

It's just WAY too early in the season to talk about anyone going all the way. BS is overrated, so are the *ucks. Neither will be playing for the national championship, the sooner everyone gets that through their heads, the better off we'll all be

True, but, it is much easier to prepare for the "Big Boys" every once in a while. Big difference from having to prepare for a Big Boy every week. Case in point: UW got a very nice win, but the next week they get to prepare for UA, and then Oregon. There is no easy week in the Pac 10, most weeks are pretty light in the WAC.

The big boys play 2 or 3 creampuffs a year. BSU plays 8 or 10.

And if the "big boys" could accept the players BSU can and ignore their academic standards, you'd see BSU winning less in matchups with the "big boys".

Like DBA said.............they lost to UW a couple years ago. That's not really something to hang your hat on when you claim you're really a giant killer.

BSU plays great football, and they have a great coach.........I'll give them that.

Although Boise State looks good on paper, put them in the Pac 10 and they're likely a 1-2 loss team....

Ducks are getting better every week.... As crazy as it is, I don't see them losing this season....

All this discussion shows is that what is needed is an open playoff system. Works in every other NCAA sport and division. Too much money and risk of embarassment for the Major Majors.

Even open playoff wouldn't be fair if you include the likes of a BSU. The big boys are out or playing injured most of the season whereas a BSU prima donna may get one or two tough games and a long time to recoup. By bowl time they are a full team whereas most of the big boys are lucky to have 75% of the team they started the season with. It's an extreme injustice when the likes of a BSU, BYU, Miami or FSU is GIVEN (not earned) the natl championship.

Yeah, non-conference games are sposed to be tuneups not beat downs

Tell that to the Beavs TCU, and BSU, to start the season. Cripes!

Yep, better than even money that someone will beat 'em.


Oklahoma has already done that in the BCS standings.


Strength of schedule will always factor in as long as the BCS computers are doing the picking.

I think if BSU played in the Pac, they'd be in the top 1/3 of the conference........at least for the past few years. Like I said, they play solid football, and they have a great coach.

But if you think they'd own the Pac-10 the way they own their own conference, then you're kidding yourself. If you come into a Pac-10 game without being ready, chances are you're going to get beat. A few years ago BSU played UW, and they came into the game without their heads screwed on straight.......it wasn't a bowl game, UW was a pretty lousy team, so BSU was looking past them..........and they lost. That's the kind of sh!t that happens to a team when they have to play great every week.

It's damn hard for a college team to keep their heads screwed on straight for 12 straight games. Doing it in a major conference is harder, IMO.........that's why it doesn't happen all that often.
