Woman attacked by bear in Gig Harbor
A Gig Harbor woman was attacked by a bear while walking her dog this morning. The attack occurred around 8:50 a.m. in the 7300 block of 78th Avenue Northwest. According to KIRO-TV, the dog startled the bear, which then attacked the woman. She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. Her condition is unknown at this time.

maybe city folk will allow hound hunting after a few more attacks like this.

Sad to hear the story... But chances are it will take a lot more human run-ins before they allow hound hunting again. Bummer.... Hound hunting sure was a lot of fun!

Terrible thing to have happen. It amazes me how OK news channels think it is to show video's of people taking pictures of bears in their backyards, laughing at how cute they are.
Bears in your backyard is NOT cute....it's dangerous. If they don't run when you yell at them, they should be shot.

Oh and they're planning to plant some wolves near Mt. St. Helens... I can't wait for the day I'm bow hunting and a pack surrounds me... I can tell you know, I'm emptying my clips and quiver....

Pretty weird for a black bear to attack a human. Maybe the bears are just getting fed up with getting the short end of the stick in human/bear interactions. The bears finally realized that they are faster, stronger, and already knew they aren't picky about what they eat, and there are just so dang many people. Everywhere a bear goes, there's more people. Maybe they're just trying to make the best of the situation and take advantage of the abundance of slow, weak, and generally fat humans. Optimal foraging theory taken to the next level.

No animal that can harm my family or livestock last long around my place. Even a few that can't harm anything end up dead. grin

Yeah just to be safe we need to exterminate everything.

IMO, bears are fed up with Califonian locusts too.

With the increase in bear numbers and the explosion in the human numbers it will happen more and more. The real unusual thing is that it does not happen more often.
And if she was from Cali we should be able to easily identify the bear...........it will be the one licking its butt to get the taste out of its mouth. grin

Something is wrong, seriously wrong, if you're alone, unarmed, and in the grasp of one of earth's major predators; a predator intent on supplementing its diet of birdseed, berries, and garbage with your flesh... don't get much "wronger" than that.

Might be all the bear was doing was have some berry breakfast when dog jumps bear, women trys to retrieve dog screaming at the top of her lungs..Bear was probalay the most scared of the bunch and just tried to claw its way out of the situation.

I'm thinking she came down the trail with her San Francisco attitude and the bear was having none of it.

Just give the hunter the right to hunt over a bait for bears..

Their #'s will drop quickly...

With my luck I would have stumbled into this group of Bears and had to fight my way out.

Waste of time and maple syrup. Use a drone missile and accept the collateral damage.
