This has nothing to do with national security. It has everything to do with making our government transparent. Every American has a right to know what the government is doing and why. Last time I checked we live in a democracy (kind of), not a totalitarian government.
Fear the military-industrial-complex.
I don't believe every American should have the rights you speak of, but that's another matter. I feel that much of the information simply isn't ready for John Q Public to read on the front page of the W.S.J. or N.Y.T. There is a lot of strategy and forethought involved with many of these decisions that John Q just wont be able to understand because he doesn't have the required experience or know what context the comments or decisions were made within. There has to be a fair middle ground here. Perhaps make similar information available to those who seek it, but disallow the broadest forms of publication, or something like that. For Now, I appreciate what Julian Assange and his followers are trying to do. Hopefully it will make the government more accountable to itself..something we all know is badly needed. Especially these days when Ethics and Jurisprudence office budgets are being slashed like sled trailer tires on the O.P. on that note, My Step-mother is Carol Van Noy, who headed up the City of Seattle ethics office until she retired....You wouldn't believe the crap that ISN'T published that is common knowledge inside city hall. Corruption has no boundaries. For the record, if anyone takes out Julian, Wikileaks will continue. He knows he is vulnerable as the organization's front man, and has support around the world that will continue his work even if he is jailed or killed.

If you don't want to see this country totally fall apart then don't hope for world peace.
When everyone in the world is wealthy to the point they cant spend it all, don't need work, no one will keep score at the apple cup and there are plenty of wild fish for all there will be no world peace...
Yea lets be a totally transparent world power hey lets tell everybody how much everyone else makes and how hard they work for it to. that way no one can take advantage of me and I wont take advantage of any one or any country either. Its going to be a beautiful day weeee
lets vote on everything blue ink or black ink maybe black background with white text white background with black text ooh colors. Not alot of people other than you and I are capable of these decisions and sometimes I'm not so sure about you....

I had forgotten about that.
Have to go back into my archives and see if I can dig anything up. Remember reading on it at one time. Shot-gun marriage demanded by the Fed and Hank Paulson if I'm not mistaken.
Their actions in that deal, the silver futures market, forclosuregate,...
Take your pick.

Assange said today:
"Asked what his "moral calculus" was to justify publishing the leaks and whether he considered what he was doing to be "civil disobedience," Assange said, "Not at all. This organization practices civil obedience, that is, we are an organization that tries to make the world more civil and act against abusive organizations that are pushing it in the opposite direction."

I wish I could easily condemn it, but I can't. The bottom line is that I do condemn it, but not easily. I get a kick out of exposing our "Holier than thou" leaders as being what they truly are....childish, self-centered bastards-of-society. On the other hand, some elements of national importance need to be kept in trusted hands (good luck with that, but where are we without it?), and since the second element is earmarked with the first and inseparable......
hang him.

Bill Clinton, not someone who I see eye to eye with on many subjects (except for pleasingly plump women), believes these leaks will cost human lives.
I get the titilation factor, knocking folks off of their high horses and all.

This banking thing could be worse than the state dept leaks if it involved other countrys investments. In China CEO's of corrupt companys get to redeem themselves by becoming organ donors.

Wow sure sucks when somebody reads through your private papers without probable cause. Good thing the government never listens to cell phone calls, never looks at what websites you go to, never reads your email and never checks to see what books you check out of the library without probable cause or a warrant.
Gentlemen do not read other gentlemen's mail. So if our government behaves like a gentleman, this guy is scum. However if out government is doing corrupt and immoral things then there is probable cause to look into what they are doing and this guy is a hero. Although it may not have been officially sanctioned, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I'm sure that the government is all sunshine flowers and candy, there is no reason for any oversight of them at all.
Funny thing is that this guy will probably be locked up before he drops the banking bombshell. Since we already know that banks were lying in court to fraudulently steal people's houses and we know that the banks recklessly destroyed our economy, I wonder what that banking megaleak is all about. I bet we won't see it. The government knew in advance he was going to leak these diplomatic documents and did nothing. After all risking the lives of a few plebs in our military is not really a concern to the government at all, mess with the big bankers who own this country, well that's unforgivable.
It's often hard to see where our government starts and where the military-industrial-banking mafia stops. Excellent Post!!
