Dumb dumb dumb. I can give a pass to the uneducated for killing for food but just to mount the fish. Pretty sad. Repro repro repro! Lasts much longer and looks just as good.

That is a very old video, and unfortunately it was legal and common to bonk nates at that time on the Umpqua, it was the culture back then.
Glenn has discussed the subject several times over the years and said he would handle the situation differently now.
I was going to mention this same thing. This is an old video. Many of us bonked nates in the earler years and some us weren't as fortunate to catch the conservation bug until after the damage was done. I killed some wild fish. Would I take it back? Hell ya I would! Unfortunately, this guy seems to have a target on his head as of late. The hoh river incident last year seemed to start this witch hunt. Fact is, Glenn had some newbie with the film crew in a different boat that broke the show's catch and release policy. When Glenn found out he was upset and apologized to everyone. Here we go again. Didn't look close enough to see how old the video was. If he is practicing CnR now that is all you can ask for. Just thought it might have been more recent as you could still keep at least one native on the Umpqua until fairly recently. Apologies for starting a needless witch hunt.

He said it in the video:
"This is what Hawg Quest is all about!"
There you have it. Case closed.

That fish is only about 18 pounds...which makes it no less retarded to bonk it. If he wanted to eat it...well, it's a boot winter run, it'll taste like wet toilet paper soaked in herring oil...if he wanted a mount (which is cool, but I'd save my money for an actual big fish to mount it), he could have had a repro done...
Whatever.
Fish on...
Todd I ll agree that that fish would be lucky to push 20lbs, whoever that jackass in the boat that said 25lb is an idiot. However, when was this video shot? I've seen much bigger fish out of Glenn's boat. So it must be old. Also, we've all killed wild fish, at some point. I certainly wouldn't kill that fish, and I don't think Glenn would either. But we must be careful to criticize him if it is indeed an old video. We've all learned from our mistakes in the past, and most of us, including Glenn, have adopted an almost 100% C&R mentality. 40inches is a big ironhead. It was probably 18-20 lbs, but certainly not a worthy of a wall hanger. Especially considering Glenn fishes so much prime steelhead water. Plus a repro is a much better mount. It can actually accentuate the size of your fish. I'll agree that that was a dick-head thing to do, but let's not jump on him too hard, I've seen him release a lot of BIG steel. Also, I've seen certain forks' river guides kill fish for their clients. So lets not be too hypoctritcal. I guarantee most of the people on this board have bonked a wild fish. That's a fact. Live and learn. I'm sure Glenn has, or at least will from now on after reading all of your hypocritical bullsite!

The hoh river incident last year seemed to start this witch hunt. Fact is, Glenn had some newbie with the film crew in a different boat that broke the show's catch and release policy. When Glenn found out he was upset and apologized to everyone. I just don't understand how people hanging with him/them couldn't be aware of the situation? These are supposed to be people in-the-know. And they bonked a wild Hoh fish LAST YEAR. It just seems odd.

That is a very true statement.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Back then?
How long ago could this have been? It's not like HQ was filming episodes in the 70's or 80's.

Go back long enough in time, and we're all guilty of killing a wild fish!
Searching for some guilt from the past to move forward here as if it was today, whats your point ???
Redd A person would not have to go back very far--- if you are totally CNR there is an excellent chance that you have killed a wild fish.

I don't mind glen at all. He actually seems like a pretty cool dude and would be fun to fish with. Some of you make it sound like he's the spawn of satan tho. I doubt the guy is full of evil because he killed a fish back in the day when most people were killing fish, even the self righteous anal retentive judgemental folks that seem to want to crucify him for it now. I'll enjoy the show, and if ever given the chance to fish with him I think that's be cool. Seems like a good fisherman too. Not at all riding his jock so save that mess. Just calling it like I see it and I actually enjoy the show. Of course is rather be fishing but when all else fails....

If killing a native steelhead is so repugnant to so many sport anglers, then why are you fishing in rivers with native stocks present? One in every ten fish released is dead, so if the stocks can't handle limited harvest, then why are you fishing over these fish? If you say because it's legal, then set your a$$ down next to the guy bonking the wild steelhead, because it's also legal.
