SEATTLE – The Washington Department of Revenue has launched a statewide effort to collect sales tax from medical marijuana dispensaries.

Spokesman Mike Gowrylow says the department mailed letters to 90 dispensaries and related organizations on Friday, insisting that medical marijuana is not exempt from state sales tax and dispensaries must collect that money and turn it over to the state.

The letter also warned them that dispensaries must also pay the state business and occupation tax

So that way the state can come collect taxes from you and the fed can just ride their coattails in and shut your ass down.

No they won't. Most are making illegal purchases that don't get taxed. Those who need it for medical reasons will just grow their own and take needless risks of having their homes broken into, kids getting ahold of it etc.

STUPIDITY again from this state.

Check the totals at the end of the year and see if you agree with yourself. Are you implying that the sales tax is what will make people decide to stop buying at dispensaries? That is like saying that sales tax is the reason people grow their own vegetables.

The amount of money required to successfully grow quality canabis is a helluvalot more than a medical user will spend on sales tax for said canabis...likely more than they'll spend on sales tax for a decade.

It's not like you just run down to Home Depot and buy a Grow Operation Kit, put it together while watching TV that evening, and medical grade marijuana comes shooting out the other end of it before the Friends rerun is over...

It takes a lot of time, a lot of money, and a lot of expertise...going to the dispensary takes little time, not much money, and only enough expertise to drive a car and count to sixty by twenties.

Not to mention the fact that revenue for the state is one of the best reasons for legalizing any sort of drug.

Fish on...

If she's growing her own for less than it costs to buy it, then I suspect she's growing some serious mexican ditch weed, probably in flower pot in her closet...right?

Even the state has acknowledged that more than half, nearly 3/4 of medical marijuana cards are issued to recreational users. Any idiot who complains of headaches, sleeplessness, etc. Can obtain a card. How can you prove they actually have these "illnesses"? I know a guy who sits around smoking pot all day, collects disability for a back injury but can hunt and pack out elk and even climbed Mt. Hood 2 years ago. If he can do that, he can work. Medical marijuana is just an excuse to smoke pot in my opinion as I work in the EMS field and see these people daily. Im all for locking up these culls but tax the dispensaries in the meantime.

California
Voters in the state of California approved a “medical” marijuana act in 1996 and the law went into effect the following day. There are an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 “medical” marijuana “patients” in California. In cities like San Diego where the issue has been closely examined, only 2% of those smoking marijuana under the guise of medicine have serious conditions such as AIDS, glaucoma and cancer. A full 98% are “treating” more minor conditions such as back and neck pain, anxiety, muscle spasms, insomnia, headaches and other insignificant conditions. But even more troubling is that 12% of the users are under 21!

Oregon
Voters in the state of Oregon approved a “medical” marijuana act in 1998.  As of July 1, 2010, the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program has 36,380 individuals that legally hold “medical” marijuana ID cards, and of those, 89.6% are treating “severe pain” (an indefinable term that is being used to cover medical conditions such as menstrual cramps, headaches, and minor arthritis) rather than the more serious conditions such as cancer (3.9%), glaucoma (1.5%) and HIV+/AIDS (1.6%).

I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. For the record, I also feel less stress and my aches and pains go away with a little Scotch.

But I suppose popping Vicodins either with a prescription or recreationally is ok? Look at the numbers of people who abuse legal narcotics. It's an astounding number, and not only that, people DIE from them. I don't think I've ever heard of someone dying from pot. I don't think I've even heard of someone dying while driving from pot, but I'm sure there are some numbers out there for that.

Pot is pretty harmless. I know, because I smoked it once but didn't like it.

US Patent for medical marijuana

Not to mention the Feds have there own medical marijuana program that started way before the states, only a hand full of people are still on , and no one new can sign up, but at long as those people stay on they will still receive marijuana from the feds.

Thats why the dispensaries in Colorado and I believe in California also, were asking to be taxed.

Where did I say alcohol was better than marijuana you brainless old bat? I only said it was legal, taxed, reduced stress and reduced pain. I would not advocate either over seeking a qualified physicians advice. While I understand some prescription drugs have negative side effects, not all do, and I believe most medical marijuana users are recreational users, as several states have disclosed.

I also noticed you failed to list the negative effects of marijuana use for comparrison.

Ohhh... look how smart he is! NOT!

--------------------------------

Why Are Alcoholism Statistics Necessary?

Unfortunately, the full extent of the dangerous and widespread effects of alcoholism are not typically comprehended until various alcoholism statistics are clearly stated.

As a result, the following alcoholism statistics, retrieved from various online surveys and research studies, will be listed:

Alcohol dependence and alcohol abuse cost the United States an estimated $220 billion in 2005. This dollar amount was more than the cost associated with cancer ($196 billion) and obesity ($133 billion).

The 25.9% of underage drinkers who are alcohol abusers and alcohol dependent drink 47.3% of the alcohol that is consumed by all underage drinkers.

Long-term excessive drinking can lead to pancreatitis (that is, an inflammation of the pancreas). Pancreatitis is associated with severe abdominal pain and excessive weight loss and can result in death.

Alcoholism can increase the risk for certain cancers, especially those of the throat, voice box (larynx), liver, colon, kidneys, rectum, and the esophagus. Excessive drinking can also cause immune system problems, brain damage, harm to the fetus during pregnancy, and cirrhosis of the liver.

Approximately 43% of American adults have had a child, parent, sibling or spouse who is or was an alcoholic.

3 million Americans over the age of 60 are alcohol-dependent or alcohol abusers.

In the United States, almost three times as many men (9.8 million) as women (3.9 million) abuse alcohol or are alcohol-dependent.

In a study of more than 450 American alcoholics and 80 heroin addicts, it was found that the absent father is a very typical occurrence. In fact, according to this study, it is the rule rather than the exception.

6.6 million American children under the age of 18 live in homes with at least one alcoholic parent.

Approximately 14 million people in the United States are addicted to alcohol or abuse alcohol.

More than seven percent of the population ages 18 years and older -- nearly 13.8 million Americans -- have problems with drinking, including 8.1 million people who suffer from alcoholism.

Individuals in stable marriages have the lowest incidence of lifetime prevalence of alcoholism (8.9%) as opposed to co-habiting adults who have never been married (29.2%).

Approximately one in four children is exposed to family alcoholism, addiction, or alcohol abuse some time before the age of 18.

More alcoholism is being found in the elderly now that more baby boomers are retiring.

In general, unmarried workers (divorced, separated or never married) have about twice the rate of alcoholism or alcohol abuse as married workers.

Classical alcoholism takes about 15 years to develop, but it can happen much quicker in adolescents and young adults.

20% of alcoholics who try to quit drinking on their own without medical management die of alcohol withdrawal delirium.

Individuals with drinking problems or alcoholism at any time in their lives suffer income reductions ranging from 1.5% to 18.7% depending on age and sex compared with those with no such diagnosis.

Non-alcoholic members of alcoholic's families use 10 times as much sick leave as families where alcohol is not a problem. 80% of these family members report their ability to perform work is impaired as a result of living with an alcohol abuser.

Generally, alcoholism is caused by 40% genetic factors and the remaining 60% by factors we don’t understand.

Research indicates that children of alcoholic parents are at greater risk than other children of becoming alcoholics.

500,000 Americans who are dependent on alcohol are between the ages of 9 and 12.

More than one-half of American adults have a close family member who has or has had alcohol addiction.
--------------------

And that doesn't even address the drunk driving deaths and injuries...

BD is still the winner!

[censored], I had to crack one after reading all of that... Bottoms up!

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Really?

Name one.

Just one.

Pull out the PDR. Every drug on earth is in there. And every f'n one of them has some negative side effects listed.

I figured an EMT would be better informed than you are. Is it the drinking?

Doxylamine, a common prescription for insomnia. The most serious side effects are blurred vision and occasional difficulty urinating.

Next.

So when BD rolls up on an auto accident at 2am is he thinking " must be a pothead" or "probably alcohol involved"?

Only bait dunker, in his typical idiotic fashion, could claim that difficulty urinating isn't a negative side effect.

I'm sure people love it when they can't piss.

My guess is Bait Dunker was sold yard clippings as pot in high school then went around telling everyone how high he got from it. subsequently, he became the laughing stock of his school and has hated pot heads ever since.

Difficulty urinating is considered a minor side effect by the medical community.
Ever hear of anyone dying from dry mouth? Heaven forbid a "sleeping pill" causes drowsiness! Go back to smoking pot, as long as I don't have to haul your ass into the hospital at 3am, I really don't care.

Marsha, you need a fukkin job, your on the Internet too much, it has rotted your brain.

Commonly prescribed for sleeplessness.
Doxylamine is one of the many sedating antihistamines used by itself as a short-term sedative, and in combination with other drugs as a night-time cold and allergy relief drug. It is also used in combination with the analgesics paracetamol (acetaminophen) and codeine as an analgesic/calmative preparation, and is prescribed in combination with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) to prevent morning sickness in pregnant women.
