Anybody use it as a cover scent or an attractant for trout? I know people use it for steelies and salmon,so I'm sure it would work for trout. What do you think?

I don't do it personally, but I know several people who do.

Sure, that should work. I have not tried it intentionally. I am sure some WD40 gets on some of my lures and stuff just because I use it alot in my boat.

Not sure how much it helps, but know it doesn't hurt. I have a goofball that fishes walleye and perch with me who always uses WD-40, and manages to accidentally catch a fair amount of trout in the process.

i spray it on everything i use, even when im using bait...i think it has more to do with removing and/or covering scent since it ends up on the surface on the first cast. try it out next time and see how you like it.

Ends up on the surface???

What's the chemical makeup of WD-40? Bet it's not good to spray on the surface of a lake.

I thought it was illegal. I know it is for catfish in CA. You might want to check the regs on this one.

What's wrong. Can't stand a little ribbing. This site is just not for power baiters. Must have thin skin. :p :p :p

While I choose not to use wd-40, i do occassional use other fish scent attractors when legal (heck, even on flies sometimes).

From what I understand, there is cod liver oil in wd-40 that is what the fish key in on. Not sure what other junk is in there though.

And while there are deffinately some pristine waters that should be kept as such, in large lakes, ocean, puget sound, columbia, etc, where commercial and recreational boating ensures a year round oil slick, a little wd-40 is not going to be an issue. I'd be more concerned about what your putting on your lawn or washing off your driveway that is running into our salmon and steelhead spawning streams.

Anyway, just trying to bring in a little perspective here...
