I was fishing silver lake's dock hadn't caught anything (or even had a bite) in the four hours i had been there so i was riggin' my 3.5 ft micro lite pole up to catch a little bluegill i had seen right by the boat launch just so i wouldn't get skunked. Well my girl was walking back from the car and yelled "there's big fish (holding her arms about 2 ft. wide) what kind is it?". Well, I figured it had to be a bass or carp. So i put about 2" inches of worm on my hook and brought my 4lb. test rig over by the launch. I'd never seen a bass that big before in my life and here i was holding a rig that makes a 6" rainbow feel like a salmon. Not wanting to take the time rig up something bigger i threw my crawler out and started twitching it along the bottom (I was standing on the dock looking down in about 3ft of water. Threw at him about 10 times, on the last cast i was gonna make to him, he swam over and swallow my rig. As soon as i set the hook he just exploded, my drag was singin' and he took towards a boat the was tied up along side the dock. My 4lb test was starting to drag along stern of the boat and knowin' that any extra pressure would pop the line, i jumped in. Now i standing up to my waist in the water fighting this fish and he started under the dock so i walked after and spooked him away, i fought him for about five minutes in the water with everybody watching and pokin' fun at me for jumpin' in, before i got him in the net. After being helped up outta the water i got my picture taken with'em and turned him back. That fish was the only one i caught all weekend, but i tell you what i'll never forget my first big bass.
