Hey all,
Anybody have experience with lure retrievers?
I'm beginning to collect(very slowly) a small arsenal of crankbaits, minnows, and surface plugs for smallies, bucketmouths, and panfish, and was hoping that this little gadget might ease the financial woes of the learning curve.
Any idea where I might obtain one locally?(Pierce Co.)
Bass Pro Shops have a selection of them online, but I'd rather support the local guys if at all possible.
Thanks in advance,
Larry

Lure retriever? I don't know what that is. Can you tell us more about the lure retriever?

You can find them at the bass pro shops website by typing in "lure retriever" in the search box.
(for whatever reason I'm unable to link directly)

You can make your own. Take about a 4 oz. mooching sinker, and using split rings, attach some large treble hooks to each end. Also attach a snap connector to each end. The only other thing you need some stout line to attach it to. When you get a lure hung up, open the snap connectors on your retreiver, an clip them over the line attached to your lure. Let the rig slide down your line until it gets to your lure. Raising your rod tip up high will steepen the angle and allow the retreiver to slide down quicker. By jiggling the retreiver line and your rod tip, you should be able to get those treble hooks tangled in your lure. Then haul on the afore mentioned stout retreiver line, and try to knock or pull your lure free. Good luck!

I remember a guy at Deep Lake. He had one of those thin yellow ropes, and he attached a good size magnet to it. He just tossed it out in the water, let it sink, then slowly started tugging on it untill it was below him, then he hauled it out.

He brought up at least 20 hooks/lures as well as a set of car keys. I think I'll be trying that this time around.
