Back during the peak fear, the Patriot Act got shoved (more like ushered) through into law. One of the shady provisions was allowing law enforcement to essentially create a search warrant AFTER the search. This article ( http://nymag.com/news/9-11/10th-anniversary/patriot-act/) shows how those "sneak-and-peek" searches are being used to, ahem, defend us from terrorism. Viva the police state! -AP

I wonder how many of those Drug searches turned up paraphernalia or less than a gram of pot.
Do these laws ever sunset, or are they permanent?

Come on, guys, we all know that drugs finance the terrorist plots, and that busting some college kid with an eighth of schitty ditch weed might save untold numbers of innocent 'Mercans.
I'd be willing to be that 99% of anything at all that's ever been done with the Patriot Act has nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism, just Big Brotherism.
Fish on...

This is one of those areas where the far left and far right tend to agree. This act is intolerable. The SCOTUS should toss it. The voters should demand it.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Do these laws ever sunset, or are they permanent? It would'a sunset had Obama not extended it. But it's still Bushs fault.

Big brotherism indeed. The hyperexpansion of communications espionage over the last ten years has been mindblowing...Trust me.
Those major telcom mergers floating around in the news, well, they'll be approved after the charade is over, under the guise of better services for the consumer, with the real intent of expanding the governments access to everything you say and do in the digital world..
Personally, I could give a F!ck, cause I don't do anything illegal where I feel like I need to be looking over my shoulder..

Goes along with all the B.S. we have seen in the last ten years. Never waste a good crisis.
