Good answer. Walking up that step ladder take too much out of you to address my question?

Didn't expect an answer or response. I deal with people who have opinions all the time. Having a solution to a question/problem/issue is another story.

From the article: Businesses with five to 49 employees must provide a minimum of five paid sick days.

Where did you get two weeks from that?

Maybe your margins are so thin because you're a bad businessman, or you deliver a bad product. Maybe if you weren't such a c0ck, your employees would work harder for you, and not use the sick days unless they were deathly ill?

Who gives a f.uck what your knuckleheaded employee said? Maybe if you had higher standards in employees, you could make enough money to pay for sick leave.

Step ladder? Funny.

As stated before. I do pay sick leave, vacation, holidays, etc. But, why is it the government's job to legislate it? Still a question you won't answer.

Yes, I did get my days wrong. so I'm off by a week. Been putting in too many 12's and 16's for months on end to make ends meet. And, as stated, I'm not in Seattle so it really doesn't affect me. But, we should be concerned with what's going on.

When did it become the City's business to pass this kind of legislation? Just answer that simple question. Maybe that's over your head.

Are you retarded?

I never made the case that it WAS the city council's place to stick their nose into it.

I'm just tired of your sniveling.

The bill exempts businesses with fewer than five employees and new businesses during their first two years of operation. Businesses with five to 49 employees must provide a minimum of five paid sick days.

You may be tired of my sniveling but you haven't even attempted to answer 1 of the questions asked. Instead, you bash, 'cause you can't do no better. Get a taller ladder. You might be able to see over the hedge. Plenty of people to pat you on the back but that's what friends do.

I'm not sniveling. I'm still doing business in a less than friendly business environment. My employees are still being paid, I'm just hoping in the next few months I'll be able to write myself a paycheck. That would be nice. Legislation like this is not helping small business or anyone else trying to make it in this environment right now.

12 and 16 hours without overtime, I expect. Something most workers never think about. Eventually more business will be moving out of Seattle. I also suspect fewer vacation days are used these days. Some survey said Americans get less paid time off than other countries. Not surprised.

If people want paid time off for being sick, prepare to give up your right to smoke, drink or do crazy [censored] that lands you in the hospital.

I personally don't get overtime. I don't qualify for unemployment or disablility. So, It's just me trying to make things work. And, while others here may brand me a certain way, I look after my employees and their families in ways that most companies won't. I own the business and work nights. Not one of my employees does the same. All they want is a raise. I wouldn't expect other people to understand that because we really shouldn't have to work that hard, right?

Awwww.

Are you going to be OK, Sally?

The only thing I need a ladder for is to stay above all the sand pouring out of your mangina.

If you want a question answered, try google.com I didn't answer your question because I think you're a dick.

I did. He has 2 kids now. We helped him set up a a work schedule so both he and his wife could work...... While still having some time together. I did give a f.uck. It may not matter to you or anyone else but it does to me and that's what counts. I think his family feels the same way.

I guess my company pays sick time because they think their high-grade employees are worth keeping.

smile

And you can believe it when I say they get every penny's worth out of me at work.........just like they should.

I haven't taken a sick day in three years, and my paid-for Tacoma has 235K on it. wink

Hmmm, can't remember when I last took a sick day. Used to get a bad cold or flu twice a year, almost like clockwork. Then started taking vitamins 9 years ago and have had a cold only 3 times since, but medical science says "there's no proof." Anyway, now have over 1100 hours of sick leave built up, so I'll still get paid if/when I'm on my death bed, or lose it when I retire. Annual leave, now that manages to stay well below the annual "use it or lose it" limit.

I do like sick leave. What I don't like are those employees who think they're so damn indispensable that they come to work hackin' like a dog, giving everyone else whatever they've got. Then again, those types are typically disrespectful of others every day, sick or not. I digress . . .

Paid for car is up to 156k, but the check engine light came on last Friday.

I don't have a problem with sick leave at all, but I have a problem with a government adding unneeded regulations to my business. If you run a bad business and the employees do not feel like they are treated fairly your talent will leave and your business will fail.

Why does the government always feel the need to pander to the least common denominator? Who does this policy help out, really?

We (my little company) sets our leave policy to meet the industry standards, and to attract the type of employees we desire. We don't have "sick leave" per say just paid leave, for whatever you want it to be. We give an extra 5 days of paid leave on top of the industry standards to make up for the sick leave we don't show as sick leave. We also have a no-argument policy on being sick. If someone comes in and is sniffling or coughing, we send them home. They can choose to be paid or not. I have even forced the senior partner here to go home. No one abuses the policy because we are in a production-oriented business. No product, no job.

I worked for the gov't for a while and I always thought it was so dumb to have to call in sick to fish. Now I can call in "Rivers in shape" to fish and it makes much more sense. Of course with smart phones and remote work stations, I can get work done from the river and life is even easier.

Those are "I'm the boss, paychecks are in the top drawer, if you have any problems call me, otherwise I'll see you next Tuesday," days.

Instead of averaging in the "sick leave" pay into your costs, why not just pay the employees a higher wage...same with all benefits, just pay the employee and let him/her buy what coverages they choose ? So one employee gets sick and doesn't work a few days, seems logical that the employee that didn't get sick (and put in more days working) will make more money for the year.
