Dan S. made a comment about Price being a better QB than Locker and it got me thinking to back to all the QBs that have played at UW over the years as there has been a lot.

How/where do you rank the best? Who was the best pure passer? The best runner? The best team leader? The most athletic?

Hobert was actually THE man.

He never lost as a Husky QB.

Hard to argue with that stat, and nobody else makes that list.

Never understood why Hobert didn't make it as a pro. Must admit I was always partial to Brunell as the more well rounded QB.

Emtman was uber good, but not as a QB. Nor was Napoleon if you mean the same one I'm thinking of. And it's a rare day that I'm any good at sports trivia. Oh, I know, I know, sports ain't trivia.

Hobert and Burnell were great. I would have liked to seen what Hobert could have done with the rest of his career if given the chance.

Tuiasosopo would be high on my list as well for his ability to run, pass and carry the team on his back to comeback victories.
Others I liked were Flick, Pelluer and Chandler.

As much as I liked Locker as an athlete, he wouldn't make it in my list of top 10 Dawg QB's.

I'll only go back to when I started school there in 1987....

Pure passer - Cody Picket. Not going to pick Brunell only because he had the best receivers of any Husky Team. Price will be up there, if not THE best pure passer by the time he's done. Only time will tell, but so far, I really like Keith. Great kid!

Best runner - Marques Tuiasosopo.

Team Leader - No idea, as the only ones to truly know and would be able to tell us are the players. Obvious candidates are Price, Locker, Stanback, Huard(s), Tui, and Brunell.

Most Athletic. Locker. The guy is big, fast, strong, and just flat out naturally athletic. Unfortunately, he couldn't pass for crap (his baseball throwin mechanics messed with his football mechanics) and got flat out poorly used and coached. Hopefully he tears apart his opponents in the NFL!

I liked Hobert, but he wasn't anything special. The O-line, running game, and receiving corp made him look good. The guy COULD huck the ball about 90 yards straight down the field....to a sprinting Mario Bailey ANOTHER HUSKY TOUCHDOWN!!

Damn, that was fun.

Best Passer: Cody Pickett or Brock Huard, but Price has better numbers than both of them............for now. We'll see how it pans out.

Best Runner: Tie - Tui and Locker. Had Locker run an option offense, I'm pretty sure he would have destroyed Tui's stats.

Most athletic: Locker followed closely by Stanback

Best Leader: Tui. That 200/300 game he put up against Stanford was unreal. He consistently put the team on his back and carried them to a win.

Overall:
Moon
Sixkiller
Hobert
Brunell
Locker
Chandler
Tuiasosopo
Millen

Hobert wasn't anything special? I disagree. Even surrounded by talent, a QB is something special when the team goes unbeaten. Watch the Nebraska game in Lincoln that Hobert played in. You might have to reevaluate your position.

In any case........UW sure has been a QB factory over the years. It would be nice to keep that up.

The reason Pickett is mentioned so often as a great passer is because he threw it as many as 60 times per game. Slick Rick loved to air it out.
Rarely did you ever see a DJ QB throw over 30 times a game.

Here are a few thoughts. The first one I can surely remember is Tom Flick although I like to THINK I remember Moon. Flick gave us a motivational speech a few years ago at work and did a great job.

I know stats don't mean everything but for passing, Pickett blows them all away with total yards. He had a 3,000 and 4,000 season. Nobody else even had a 3,000 yard season. He also had the most TDs per season with 28.

Best Runner-Gotta go with Jake.

Most athletic-Marques, nice touch and could run. A close second (or maybe even tied) is Stanbeck.

Best team leader?-A guy with no losses is pretty hard to refute. I liked Brunell better (who didn't?) but gotta go with Hobert and his unblemished record.

I'm adding a couple of categories.

Favorite QB- Locker. He just seemed like the most down to earth, humble guy who went through a ton of adversity but remained true to his school and was victorious in his last game when nobody believed in him. And he was a local boy from Ferndale. How can you not like him?

Best NFL career-Moon and Brunell are tied with Chandler coming up next.

Brock Huard had the highest single season pass rating (154%)

OK, you are down by 6 with a couple minutes left in the Rose Bowl or National Championship Game. Who do you want directing your last drive to potentially win the game?

One more thought-Every starting QB since 1975's Moon was drafted by the NFL except two. That is a long run of quality QBs.

BJ Hobert, Napolean Dynamite, Steve Emtman, Steve Emtman.

Yeah, I meant best running QB but Kaufmann would have been right at the top of the running backs list, along with Dillon.

1987 on....

Locker.

He'd just run it in from 99 yards, aiming directly at the linebackers for fun as he tore down the field.

I'd pick Tui to execute a last-minute drive.

He did it more than any other UW QB I ever watched.

help me here, and correct me if i'm wrong. moon wasn't drafted by the nfl. i was told that he had to go to the CFL cause no nfl team wanted a black quarterback. now is this true? why did moon have to shred the cfl league (how many years?) before he was picked up by the oilers? if you think about what moon did in the cfl before the nfl, even morino would be in a istant 2nd in everything.

My understanding is that you are right about that, Brewer...

Somewhere around here I have #1's autograph from when he was a Husky.

Fish on...
