Made it up to Mildred Lakes this last weekend and decided to take my float tube up the trail this time. I will leave it at home next time due to the fact I caught just as many fish without it and how much weight it packs for this hike. I shared some Lower Lena picks, so I thought I would share some of Mildred. My camera is a wimp when it comes to weather, so there are not to many.

My friend and I (blue rod case) near the beginning of the hike because we are still smiling.

Myself in the float tube on the middle lake

My friend with a typical trout up there. He doesn't fish much, so he was excited and did not want to let the fish slip. I told him I would rather have the fish slip back into the water than squeeze the life out of it.

Overall, one of the guys counted 30 or so fish caught in half a days fishing. Great hike, if you want to put the energy into it.

Nice trip photos. Haven't been up there for a few years. It was so crowded that weekend that I could hardly find a place to pitch my tent. Looks like the crowds are gone after Labor Day.

Salmo G,

I don't know what the road conditions were like a few years ago, but after the lena trailhead there have been a couple slides that you need a truck to get to the Mildred trailhead. From what I have been told, the trail has been getting harder to climb due to more fallen trees and less foot traffic each year.

So, that might be why I have never seen anyone else up there when I have gone. I bet you are right though, not many people like to hike up there only to be in the rain all weekend.

Yeah, it used to be a good road all the way to the concrete bridge over the Hamma Hamma to the parking at the trailhead. I heard about road washouts some years ago but figured they repaired them. If not, it might not be so crowded in the summer now.

I am hoping to get a GoPro before next years hike because it is too tough to stop and take pictures in the second half of the hike.
