Took the boys out to our favorite little opening day lake. We caught a number of trout, up to 4 lbs, and one 6lb steelhead. Ryan hooked this steely, but then decided it was fighting too hard, so he handed the rod off to his brother. This was the only fish we kept.

The only time I touched the rod was when I baited the hook. The boys did a great job of tag teaming this fish.

We used it all. Wedding rings, gang trolls, Canadian wonders, and even some flies. Gotta love living near a steelhead hatchery where they plant the excess fish in the local lakes. It made for a number of suprised kids today.

Saw Rocket Red. Thanks for the fly, Ryan!

Anyway, the weather was about as good as one could ask for, and it was nice rowing around the lake with 40 orther boats. wink As you can see from the smiles, the boys had a great time.

Andy

Great to see the kids get in on the action! Bet they will remember that fish for life.
Dogfish, I see that you have a wooden drift boat, I bought a Don Hill drift boat from a guy out on Widbey Is. They didn't finish the seats and have been looking at how to set up seats in the boat since then. Any way you could take a snap and post it here or send me a message. Would appreciate the layout, and measurements, (such as how far below the rail to mount the seats. How to make the rowing seat so that it can be moved for more people in the boat.Etc,etc. Would be a great help to me. Fishy...............

SSF,

I refinished the outside of the boat two years ago, and replaced the bottom. This summer I'll start to refinish the inside, sand the outside, fill in the few nicks I put in her, and the hole (oops, but not too bad), and give it a fresh coat of paint.

My boat is an older ('84) Keith Steele boat. The front seat is adjustable, and I have many options. I have two fish-on sliders on pedastals that I can run together on the front seat section, or I can put one in front, and one in the back, if I have two fly fishers. I can also run just a plain bench with cushons for lake trips, as pictured here. I can also add two funky looking seat backs for use in conjuction with the bench cushion.

The front seat bench is adjustable along a galvanized pipe rail system, and removable by flipping up the wood latches. One latch can be seen in the lower right hand corner, next to the pipe clamp in this photo.

The rowers seat is fixed and is made of rope. It is actually quite comfortable with boxes on either side for gear storage.

Hope these help somewhat. What kind of bottom do you have on yours? UHMW or epoxy & Gluv-it?

Send me a PM if you need further help.
