Wow interesting. I have been wondering if or when the next big one will occur. I shall keep my eyes on the lookout. And reflect on this story. Can't imagine Russia coming out on top though. Thanks

I'm more concerned with what Israel might do in or to Iran myself. Doesn't that fit into the author's premises of crisis caused by disproportions? Perhaps a greater concern will be what China and Russia may do to our proxy/creditor in response to such an act in this global game of chess....

Some of the pieces are moving around on the ol' board of late....
George H. W. Bush is reportedly bobbing off of Syria, and the Rooskie navy just delivered S-300 missiles in the same AO. NATO's surrounding of Iran and connecting the dots along the Rooskie southern border countered?
Seems Dmitry Medvedev is also targeting the European missile defense shield, and going to full combat alert in accord. Click on *cc* to get the English subtitles....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eBf0I-rB0m0#!
At 6:55 in--
"First, I am instructing the Defense Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert. Second, protective cover of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons, will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop out air and space defenses. Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defense penetration systems and new highly-effective warheads. Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up measures for disabling missile defense system data and guidance systems if need be... Fifth, if the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of the US missile defense system, in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad Region. Other measures to counter the European missile defense system will be drawn up and implemented as necessary. Furthermore, if the situation continues to develop not in Russia's favor we reserve the right to discontinue further disarmament and arms control measures. Besides, given the intrinsic link between strategic offensive and defensive arms, conditions for our withdrawal from the New START Treaty could also arise."
The stakes are rising but there are great Black Friday deals at Walmart....

The increasing threats of military action against Iran are of course in violation of the UN Charter, and in specific violation of Security Council Resolution 1887 of September 2009 which reaffirmed the call to all states to resolve disputes related to nuclear issues peacefully, in accordance with the Charter, which bans the use or threat of force.
The U.S./POTUS however only uses the UN when it can be manipulated and leveraged to suit it's own purposes, and ignores the UN when it's purpose and charter do not suit it's purposes.
Historians will and should be harsh on this age.

The stakes are rising but there are great Black Friday deals at Walmart....
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A woman trying to improve her chance to buy cheap electronics at a Walmart in a wealthy suburb spewed pepper spray on a crowd of shoppers and 20 people suffered minor injuries, police said Friday. The attack took place about 10:20 p.m. Thursday shortly after doors opened for the sale at the Walmart in Porter Ranch in the San Fernando Valley. The store had brought out a crate of discounted Xbox video game players, and a crowd had formed to wait for the unwrapping, when the woman began spraying people "in order to get an advantage," police Sgt. Jose Valle said. "Faces were red," shopper John Lopez told ABC News Radio. "This one guy was coming up to my wife going, 'Call an ambulance! Call an ambulance!'" It's too bad they don't watch FauxNews...they would have learned that pepper spray is just a "food product", and would have thanked her for giving them free condiments. Fish on... Todd P.S. I'd have shoved that pepper spray so far up her ass she'd be spraying out her ears.

P.S. I'd have shoved that pepper spray so far up her ass she'd be spraying out her ears. .........very doubtful you'd have done anything of the sort. Most likely you'd have seen her "Obama Change" T-shirt, given her a big inner-city, metro-sexual kiss and proceeded to take advantage of the cheap deal on a Dungeons and Dragons video game, all the while hiding behind her large coat-tails. Then you'd have blamed Fox news. But you sound way tougher telling the internet how you'da handled a wal-mart shopper....... stick with what works siter.

RvW, I don't need the InterWebz, a gun, or anything else to "feel tough"...it's not a "feel" kinda thing.
For all the options out there, it's hard to not see Israel and any number of ME countries being a flashpoint...though Pakistan and India came pretty close a few years ago.

I stopped crying for Pakistan years ago. They're pretty dirty. Go ask Benazir Bhutto. Oh wait, she's dead.
One of the main reasons we don't attack them outright is that they have nukes.

Pretty sure that we can either own or destroy that stuff when we want to. Those F16s that we gave them very likely wouldn't get off the ground. Depends on who you are aligned with more that watcha got fer guns. Also if you have natural resources and no big buddies you could have a problem. Same ol' sh!t with a different wrapper.

Good thread, which kinda wraps a lot of the news of the day all into one neat package, like this article which I agree with: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/sdr-same-demented-regimefrom the article: "So this is where it gets dangerous. If I am correct in my logic above they might realize that they have exhausted their conventional options. This means the playbook shifts to the unconventional. This probably means war. This is why the rhetoric is heating up against Iran right now. If they cannot get their way via conventional means I believe they have no problem whatsoever in wiping out a vast percentage of the world’s population to get their way"

"The spy drone, which has been downed with little damage, was seized by the Iranian armed forces."
Good news is the Chinese should have it by now and we can expect cheap knockoffs on the market by June saving the taxpayer 100's of millions.

"Iran's military said on Sunday it had shot down a US reconnaissance drone aircraft in eastern Iran and warned it would retaliate on foreign soil for the incursion." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew...-shot-down.htmlSo... given this, wonder when/where will the false flag event occur to justify releasing the Dogs of War on Iran? What will China and Russia do in response?

Hope we have something more substantial in our "things we're gonna do" bucket, than a beer summit. Whatcha got in mind Slappy? Another 10 year, multi-trillion dollar war where the American casualty potential is exponentially higher than Iraq and Afghanistan combined because they downed an unmanned drone in their airspace? If the issue could be solved with a 'beer summit'... why not? Hell, you'd still be cryin' about it anyway. Why do you hate the American military so much? gv - If you don't think that our foreign policy issues are being handled to your satisfaction... may I suggest that you grab your m-16, hop the next flight to Teheran and let 'em know in person. It would sure save us a lot of blood and treasure.

4Salt, once again you prove you are an idiot. Maybe you should grab your M16 and deploy. Me and my M4 just returned from Afghanistan in June.
I never said they weren't doing nothing. I was speaking of what Iran was going to do. Remove your tin foil hat you ass clown.

4Salt.......(aka PinHead) Why do you hate the American military so much? You obviously have been paying close attention, haven't you, now? Regular Army '65-'68 Also have been consistent and open with my "Thanks" to vets. So try again, and while you're at it, try not to look like you just pissed your pants the next time you pose with a fish. If your reference is to our present Commander in Chief......he doesn't fit my concept of a United States warrior......

4Salt, You don't know which party I vote for so it shows your ignorance. All I said is they shot down (Iran did) a drone last year and did nothing and you took it as if I was saying something about our foreign policy. So you know what they say when you assume.

I agree with RVW. Slabby is just a pathetic dolt. KK, you are just too needy, dude. I agree with RVW as well. Unfortunately, history shows that that is exactly where our military members are killed (post Civil War, or course). Foreign soil (be it desert or not) is where our soldiers go to fight. Some of us grew up remembering "Duck and Cover" drills at school, the cold war, Nikita Kruschev and his famous rant, "We will bury you!", N/S Korea, etc. Are we headed down a similar road now? Who knows. Crazy bastards in crazy lands are scary. World population of seven billion and growing (that's more than double since I served)......can't keep that up......there WILL be an equalizer at some point......like it or not. And it won't be equalized with beer...... unfortunately.

I read on the front page of several Middle Eastern (English Language) newspapers that Saudi Arabia is now looking to get in the Nuke Club. The reason given was that it was in order to protect themselves from a perceived thereat from both Iran and Israel. Just what we need another nation with nukes in a politically volatile location on the globe. Follow the link below to see daily front pages from papers throughout the world. Newseum

The unknown would be are the Israelis going to use conventional or nuclear ordnance when they do the big hit on Iran.
In 1973 a friend of mine was in the Marines on a ship in the Med. When the October War was going badly for the Israelis his battalion was issued Israeli uniforms. They didn't have to go ashore but they were ready in their Israeli uniforms. I guess the powers that be wanted to try to hide our possible involvement from the Russians and Chinese. If anything bad happens now, we'll be right in the middle of it with or without the IDF uniforms.
The only hope is that moderate Iranians will take back their country from the lunatics that are currently in charge.

True. Until the 1979 Islamic revolution Iran was a progressive, even "Western" country. Well educated and pretty advanced according to an old friend who had been stationed there when he worked for the State Department.
The leadership was still broken with the Shah and his cronies. But by now a whole generation has grown up under Islamic stone age mentality and leadership. Are there enough moderate Iranians left to actually influence the country? You have to hope so. I would think that the Arab Spring was noticed by many of them.

My impression is that younger Iranians are cosmopolitan and are not very receptive of the old hardliners.
As in many countries, if the old hard liners die off without someone (including us) doing something to hatch a new batch of hard liners, then things will change.

Gentlemen, Perhaps, your subsequent comments to my post above reflect the fact that you either missed my point, or failed to make the implied extrapolations. How's this for a dot....
An _________ sub launches a tactical nuclear missile at Iran. The missile is detected by Iran and the incoming missile is redirected at Tel Aviv, or the launching sub, or....
Perhaps, if true, the Iranians issued a very loud shot across someone's bow that was unheard by most.... This is fiction. If the attack did happen it would be an Israeli air strike or Tomahawks from a US surface ship. (and probably our air) Can't see the military necessity for a secret-squirrel submarine attack. You just have to keep the first one secret. After that it doesn't matter. Hope it never happens, though.

The Iranians may be able to react, but I don't believe that they are very strong in the secret squirrel department. They fought the Iraqis to a draw. They weren't resourceful enough to keep their F14's flying.
They have historically turned to Europe, namely Germany, for basic technology.
