Must be getting chilly down that way. Quite a few folks looking for yarnballs all of the sudden! I guess it is never too soon to start thinking about winter steelheading, not that summers don;t like them just as well.
I have quite a few of most varieties on hand and will be moving into production mode for the coming winter here before too long. Hit me up between now and the end of Sep if you are in a hurry, otherwise the middle of Oct will be my next chance to get them on the way.
Glad to hear the Garcia treated you well SZ. It is a tried and true classic for sure.

You bet Matt. Send me a PM with your shipping details.
Thanks for the bump Nick and good timing! I have been on the verge of an update on the EZ thread thread for a few days now. Stay tuned for that. For now, plenty of all makes and models on hand, but they have been going fast the last few days.

Yarn balls that tie themselves? Now that is a good idea. Why didn't I think of that.

Gone Fishin! There will have to be a brief hiatus on yarnie orders. I have a date with a hot steelhead or two. I'll be back in action Jan 28-ish. Thanks for all of the recent orders and lets seem some pics of yarn fed fish! EZ Thread Updates, Ideas, and photos Jan 2013 PS - 1blacktail. Good job?

It is that time of year again. Snowflakes are flying in the great white north, my fishing gear is tucked away for the foreseeable future, and I have already been spending way too much time at the tying table. With steelhead season just around the corner for most of the PNW, now is a great time to stock up on EZ Thread Yarnballs. I have all of the usual colors on-hand and am always happy to take requests for your personal favorites. Same details as in the past re: cost, qty's etc. Post up a recent photo or two of yarn fed fish and I'll toss in a free mixed dozen with your next order. Yarn balls and Stam's Pacifier's in the middle. Jerry Garcia in action. Shrimp Cocktail, always a favorite. Back to the table for now....

I'm very interested. What is the advantage of pegging above the hook? I've never fished yarns balls before and have some new water I'm targetting this winter.

Pegging. There has been much discussion on the topic (see hang back rigging) in a number of different contexts though conceptually the principles are the same.
Separating your bait or lure and the hook greatly reduce the chances of the fish taking a hook deep. Using the hangback method, the fish takes your offering and the hook gets them, more often than not, on the outside of the mouth, or rather from the outside in. In other words, it's better for the fish and I think that is the most important of the reasons. Some of the rest are debatable.
I do actually think that my hooked to landed ratio is just as good if not better using this rigging as opposed to having the yarnie or similar small offering sitting directly on the hook. Small as something like a yarnball may be, I still think that even a yarnie buffers the hooks ability gain maximum purchase by either blocking some of the gap, or creating some turbulence just as the hook is trying to seal the deal. With some space between lure and hook, there is nothing to prevent the hook from doing it's job as best it can.
Another reason. I like my yarnies, corkies, beads, whatever to be free sliding on the leader. I have it in my head that this can lead to some slightly more "natural" action in the water with the lure having a little more room to move as compared to it being fixed in place. Whether or not there is any truth to this idea or not I can't say for sure, but if it ain't broke...
I am sure others (Doc!) can illustrate the finer points of hanging it back much more eloquently than I can.

C, what hook you like to run in hang back mode?

Gami finesse wide gaps have been my go to as of late. Size depends on the quarry. The lighter wire is awesome as it doesn't weigh the lighter offerings down too much and they are super sticky. I haven't bent any out yet that I can recall and have landed some bigger fish on them now.
