My son and I started packing rods on our hikes. No luck so far. I realize it's late, but it'll give us something to ponder over the winter. Looking for info on techniques, gear, good lakes and any other info. Appreciate any help.

Barclay lake and goat lake are both fun to fish for brookies. Also Coal lake has great access from the service road, and has some decent fishing in there as well. For Coal, I would take a small raft to get in the middle of the lake, its a short walk from the road (150yds). Hope this helps

Several years ago I wrote an article for a fishing magazine about high lake fishing. It's a great fishery and the opportunities are endless. A couple of tips......take two rods/reels each...it's a long hike out if something breaks. Go barbless, no bait, release more than you retain and have fun! thumbs

Waptus lake might be a good one to consider. Trail is reasonably flat and a bike might be a good way of transport a lighweight raft in to it.

Check first and see if bikes are allowed on the trail. Not sure what the regs read.

I like to carry two contianers. One is full of spinners and spoons and the other is full of flies. Throw in some litres and swivles and I'm good to go. For the flies I use a casting bubble. I've been burned with the fly rod with wind and lack of access so I find it easier to just carry a spinning set up. Since these lakes are not planted every year and it can be tough to get some good/updated reports I like to pick a place that has more than one lake within a mile or so. That way if one is fishless I can pack up and move to the other.
Good Luck!
