I love our view......Letting the dogs in and out is a problem, though. Have you thought of just attaching a pulley to their collars and just using a zipwire down to a special tree?

how about the one we have decided to build?? i plan to do the kitchen a little different like having a island with a sink and dishwasher...but would love any other ideas or if you dont like it...we are more than likely going to put a two car garage on the oppisite side of the porch and patio and build a seperate boat garage...anyway...here is the one we are pretty set on One thing I noticed in the home remodel is every Contractor I had working right down to the Charter Cable guy thanked me for the work, so if you folks have some extra money right now quit sitting on it and hire someone!

Well one thing I've learned about those 2 stores is the quality isn't always the same. Even my plumber said the same brand of tub he sells is heavier than the ones the large stores sells. They just order it with less layers of glass so they can undercut. I bought a couple rolls of cheaper tar paper and found out it's about 6" shorter than the stuff we bought from the local yard. Some of it's good but watch out!

awesome thanks aunty...we picked this one off the internet...we looked at what seams like a million of them...we have the archicet coming over tonight...those are some great points...i think the kitchen will be much different than whats in the pic...i really want the sink and the dishwasher to be on the island so i can take care of dishes and watch tv at the same time i also want a area to do food prep...i think as far as sitting at the island, i dont think that is important...i doubt we would sit there... really good point about the pantry and more space...we have talked about making the kitchen bigger...im sure the archicect will have a different plan...we will see...should be fun...hopefully...hahahah

Cheryl,
Aunty mentioned some important features if you're still in the planning stage. We put our kitchen sink on the outer wall with a window. I like the natural light and being able to see outside. As far as seeing the TV while washing dishes, just rinse 'em and stick 'em in the dishwasher. I can do all the kitchen cleanup during a couple TV commercials if there's something good on to watch. The upper wall cabinets come in standard and extra tall heights. Might as well get the taller ones if there's room, even if it's to store stuff you only get out once in a while. And definitely add a pantry, cuz it looks like you don't have anywhere else in the house for one. You don't want to have to walk out to the garage every time you need a can of beans or corn or a bottle of wine.
It's nice having the eating bar along with the island, even tho we don't use ours for eating. The island counter is 2' x 5 or 6', with the bar 1.5' wide and raised 6" higher than the counter. It's great for stacking non-food stuff and maintaning some separation, altho come to think of it, we have a fruit bowl on ours too. We didn't put a veggie sink in our island, which I have seen in others, but it turns out we don't miss it - kind of hard to since we've never had one. But who the hell needs 2 sinks in the kitchen anyway?
Have fun. Building is a kick, and goes so much faster when someone else is doing it.
Sg
We installed the "adult height" master bathroom base cabinets too. That makes them 36" high instead of 30" standard, which is a better height for small kids.

I remodeled a house and have a lot of ideas, I should probably post some pictures here.
Regarding the TV and the kitchen, my house is not "open concept" but more of "old house concept" and so the TV cannot be seen from the kitchen. I installed a 19" flat screen under the cabinets. It actually is a computer monitor but you can find monitors that make good enough TVs, or TVs that make good enough monitors. The base cabinet holds the computer itself, and this is the computer that runs all of my house stuff. I ran all the necessary wires through the walls (HDMI, PC monitor, Audio, Coax, USB had to have a custom wall plate built) from the back of the cabinet and vented the cabinet into the closet behind the wall. The wireless keyboard and mouse sits in a drawer when not in use.
This has become indispensable. We can pretty much throw out our cookbooks, especially since just scanning in favorite recipes and just call them up out of the files. Music from Pandora or files gets beamed out, or if you want to watch the news, flip over to the cable input.
We did do the prep-sink in the island. It has a few really good uses, and really didn't take much useful space away. If you prep your food on the island then it is nice to just sweep straight into it, and it also is good to plug up, fill with ice and beer/chilled wine for parties.
Regarding pantries, I actually had a corner walk-in pantry in our last home and hated it. Way too deep. In my current house I did full height cabinets along a wall in the breakfast nook area. Shallow cabinets. 2 are 12" deep and the other is 16" deep. This is the best set up I have had. It is all visual space and nothing gets lost behind stuff. The efficiency compared to the corner pantry is much better.
