So that either feels like a presidential pardon or the lowest of the low as you couldn't even cut it at WSU.

Jim Moore and Brock Huard have been floating the idea of....Jim Mora. What a couple of maroons. Obviously I would love Mike Leach but I'm not too sure that will happen. I can't help but wonder if Moos doesn't have someone lined up already. I don't see the UCLA and ASU jobs as much of a competition for coaches. UCLA is just about as cheap as WSU when it comes to paying coaches and ASU is a dead end for coaches. Usually these things go like this: If the guy getting fired was a young, up and coming coach, the next go around the school tries to hire a more established coach. If the guy getting fired was established, then it is the young guy who gets the next try. So, since Wulff was young guy it would seem that the established guy is up next, sans Erickson and Slick Rick.

The problem is you gotta find someone who "wants" to live in or near pullman dude ... compare that to ugayla or asu and its a big flip. That's why I think Belotti might end up at ASU. He is older and has said he likes the warm climate. As for UCLA, those guys are cheap, cheap, cheap and they never try to hire a big name.

Well, it's apparent who runs the AD program at WSU...and it's NOT the Athletic Director.
Kinda sad, really.
WSU should have kept their coach...and gave him another couple of years.
A coach's prospects/program don't really start to shine until about 5 years in to the program.

How many years did Willingham get? Who wanted him out? Oh thats right the Tyee members hated his guts and threatened to not support stadium renovation if he was not gone. Sounds pretty similar to me.

I agree Parker.
Versus popped up a stat that showed the Coog's points-for vs. points-against ratio, and it has been a dramatic improvement over Wulff's tenure.

How many years did Willingham get? Too damn many! You picked the one example of a coach that was probably hired for every reason *besides* coaching talent. He sure as hell pulled the wool over the UW AD's eyes during his interview! That guy was a useless tool and did a ton of long-term damage to the Husky Program. He was a step worse than Neweesal. There's a reason he's not coaching any major program now. I should recommend that WSU hire him! Oh thats right the Tyee members hated his guts and threatened to not support stadium renovation if he was not gone. Sounds pretty similar to me. Not similar AT ALL. Ty got fired because he SUCKED..and SUCKED BADLY. He ran the Husky Program to the ground. Whatever he was given, he squashed it, then dropped his pants and took a dump on what was left. Your argument would hold water if Ty had actually succeeded at Washington. He couldn't and didn't do that from the start. No Tyee likes a losing program..... Oh, and the stadium renovation was going to happen regardless of who is/was coaching. It had to happen. But, it sure does *help* in getting Tyee money when the program is WINNING.....

dougie - it didnt take a degree to know willingham was a turd from the get go.
Wulff has made progress and as listed above finally got a disaster of a program back on the tracks at least.
I know Willingham was a turd, however at the time the same argument was being used for not firing him: You have to give a guy 5 years to get his own players on the field. Wulff did make progress in that the graduation rate is up, the lost scholarships are back, and he has some talent sitting there ready for the next guy. IMO, one thing that really hurt him was the OSU game. The lack of effort and preparation by the Cougs in that game sealed his fate. The donors and boosters are all over here and there were 57k fans in the stands at the Clink and the tv audience saw a team not show up. That certainly didn't help Wulff's cause.

Too many WSU athletes hit the bong. Many of them get away with it. Hell the girls basketball team requirements a: be a doper, b: preferrably homosexual, c: with a police record. Mens basketball has some of the same problems. How many of the starters have pot fired run ins with deputy dawg? You might want to try it sometime, clearly you don't have anything to lose.

Hate to see someone lose their job, but winning equals dollars in college sports today. With an $80 million staduim renovation, they needed to make a change to get fans excited about their program. To me, he looked like he already knew right after the Apple Cup what was going to be announced today. He had a defeated look to him, not just from losing the game.

Lack of players, lost scholarships, shitty location or whatever other issues you can throw in there. Name any other program that would keep a coach that had 40 losses and only 4 conference wins in 4 years?

I know Willingham was a turd, however at the time the same argument was being used for not firing him Hell no it wasn't! Nobody wanted him around. He was fired halfway through a WINLESS season. Losing is unacceptable at a program with high standards. We like winning games, losing sucks. That's why we have a coach that is doing it for us now. If you think it's a good idea to give a guy with a beat season of 4 wins, almost half of his 4 year total, more years than you are a just a stereotypical cooooog, with a stereotypical cooooog losing mentality.

Hey, he was 9-40........I dont give a [censored]. When they fired Doba..he had just won the Apple Cup. I hear the staff abondoned Doba and didn't go out recruiting. Well to me it seems they should've fired his whole staff and replaced them.
I mean give me a fukn break. WSU is not USC, UCLA, UW or anywhere else in the Pac with BIG TIME programs.
They win a few games and get spoiled. Worst mistake ever, firing DOBA. Those boffoons then hire a guy that goes 9-40, yeah 9-40....DOBA would've done better than that, with me as his defensive or offensive doordinator....jeez 9-40....i mean FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
these last four years have been unbearable...i became numb to it a long time ago....jeez!

Scott Woodward would never have hired Willingham. That was Todd Turner's mistake and he paid for it. He said he wanted to hire someone that would give the program a buzz. Tyrone giving a program a buzz was like trying to find the pulse on someone who has been dead for a week. As he would have said himself "Coach Willingham don't believe in the buzz".

The only thing I didn't like about Coach Wulff is that he put the blame on everybody else...not himself. He had to go . Sign Coach Leach and let's kick some husky @ss. Mf

Sign Coach Leach and let's kick some husky @ss. Mf You could hire Sark and the coogs would still fk'n blow it in one way or another. Coog'n it is what you do ... even when it comes to coach selections That's a fine think to say when you are gonna be sending lots of money over there next year. How about buying a suite so we can go over and watch games? I bet they will put ChuckS's name on it too!

Mf You seem to miss the point of which team is going to ANOTHER bowl game ... now I understand to you coogs, that is a nasty word. But the better teams go ... and fortunately for you they share revenue to both schools So the c00gs suckle at the the Huskies' teat ? That backfired, mf Hey, it's got to be one tough job to try to build a good program out of someone else's failed mess. Friggin' Harbaugh did pretty dam good with 'Niners, though.

We don't want Sark, he doesn't coach defense either. Four UW defensive players from last year went the NFL. What replacements there were, were young, inexperienced, undersized, and not there yet. Add injuries to that list and you've got a defense that is young and is/did/will give up a lot of yards, points, etc. Might as well just bookmark this post. Come back in 2 years and tell me how crappy the UW defense is. Hate to break the news to you, but the UW defense can ONLY get better over the next few years....and it was good enough this year to beat the Coogs and get in to a bowl game. Poor delusional Coogs.

The best thing the WSU Athletic Department did was fire the men's basketball coach, Graham I think it was, and hire Tony Bennett.
When was the last time WSU fired a football coach?

"Pullman is the Pac-12's Lubbock, only with better bars. I've never been to Pullman, but I can vouch for the fact that the bars in Lubbock SUCK. As a Texas alum, I have a lot of respect for Mike Leach, and I think he is a great hire for WSU. I don't know how much Pullman and Lubbock really have in common as cities, but I do think the Tech and WSU football programs face a lot of similar challenges, particularly with recruiting top talent. Leach overcame Tech's chronic lack of five star recruits by employing a system of offense that made marginal players deadly effective against all but the very best defenses in the nation. Most of his tenure, Leach had Tech competing for the Big 12 South championship right up to the end, which was a remarkable feat, considering the superior talent he faced at schools like Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. After establishing Tech as a true contender in the Big 12, Leach started getting some solid receivers to come to Lubbock (Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, and Michael Crabtree, to name a few), and he almost managed to take Tech to a national championship. I will be surprised if he doesn't turn some heads very quickly in the Pac-12. Even if the wins don't start piling up right away, Leach will provide excitement from the get go. To give you Coogs out there a glimpse of what's coming to Martin Stadium soon, consider my personal favorite Leach quote (or paraphrase): A lot of teams like to use the run to establish the pass. I like to use the pass to establish the pass. It makes for some very entertaining football. I can think of a few schools that had better shore up their defenses in a hurry. Besides all that, Leach is quite the eccentric, which makes for some interesting interviews. The equipment shed incident was bizarre and troubling, but they'd give anything to have Leach back at Tech. My Dad lives in Lubbock and is a big Tech fan. He tells me they are still bitter about the way the Tech A.D. railroaded Leach out. If you ask me, they're in for a treat on the Palouse.
