There is something huge, (15-20 lbs easy) and brown creating havok in some lilly pads and I cant tell what it is. Most of the carp I have seen are white in color and do not jump so much. I am new to the lake and am not sure it the lake has carp. Does anyone know?
When the fish rolls or jumps out of the water, it is brown in color, appears to have scales (not catfish like skin) and a dorsal fin like a perch or bass. Any help would be appreciated. I dont want to waste my time fishing for a carp! It actually hit my boat yesterday, I have been after it the last few days.

Sammamish has tons of carp, they get up to well over 50 pounds, are very much brown with a goldish tint, are very hard to get to hit, will be very hard to land if they do hit, and will waste a lot of your time if you are bass fishing and casting to them. They look just like this one... Fish on... Todd

Just the answer I was looking for. Thanks, I will no longer pursue Admiral Sherman, as I dubbed him. Back to bass...

Well, I have a 1000 dollar kayak, and that thing would probably drag me all over the freaking lake, but it would be fun, and I am good swimmer! Plus, I am sure I would get some laughs from the other fishermen if they saw it! I always like making people smile!

I caught a carp off that beach in the picture above, about 5 years ago.
The thing was huge--I was using light spinning gear with 8 bls test and fishing for bass. My fish was about 30lbs--my guestimate.
Interestingly, he bit on a 3-inch brown curly tail plastic grub, rigged with a sliding bullet weight.

Try them on a 5-6wt flyrod. Poor man's "Bone" fish. Carp will eat anything. I think their favorite food is "Cheeto's" they lovem.
