This is a bipartisan issue...one that shouldn't be an issue at all, were it not for a Republican Speaker of the House who wanted to play politics with it instead of just doing the obvious right thing that virtually everyone from either party supported. After being berated by his own members, The Boner finally caved...and, not surprisingly, expressed grave concern that everyone but him was playing politics with the issue. Wah. I wonder if he cried at the news conference. ******************* http://news.yahoo.com/house-republicans-cave-payroll-tax-cuts-extension-140256639.html******************* Fish on... Todd

P.S. Republican leadership has chosen the most wrong issue possible to pull their usual "anything Democrats want we are against it" policy...because EVERYONE wants this...I wonder if they're dumb enough to try and use it as a political weapon again in two months when EVERYONE will want it again, and EVERYONE knows it will be extended for the rest of the year.
For most, I'd say this is a pretty easy call...after getting beat about the head with an issue that EVERYONE supports extending, who in their right mind would fight the exact same fight in two months?
House Republicans...that's who. I think they're smart enough to not try it again on this issue, but I'll give 'em 5-2 odds that they do it again, anyway.

Cost him the Seat because the R's fold like a cheap tent, or because the R's kick him out of the Seat...or both?
Fish on...
Todd
P.S. The D's already think he's a douche...now most of the R's agree...strategically speaking this was the worst issue ever to play his childish games on...no way he could win it, and no way he could lose it without looking like a fukkstick.

Who is the fucktard in charge at the RNC, and why didn't he slap Boner upside his thick f'n head over this whole thing.
It's as if the RNC is secretly hoping Obama gets a second term, because they couldn't be this stupid without doing it on purpose.

Maybe the RNC is more shrewd than we give them credit for...colored people, gun grabbing Socialists, Islamo-Fascist-Socialists...gotta admit, they're good for bidness, if your bidness is RNC bidness.
Fish on...
Todd
P.S. I don't think this is the case, however...I think they truly are so far down the "If Obama's for it, we are against it, full tilt, no looking back" road that if Obama said he was for puppies, they'd be for killing all dogs by tomorrow at lunch time.
Especially funny is Boner's attempt to say that he's the only one not playing politics...when politics is all he and his brethren do...they haven't done anything policy-wise that has fuckall anything to do with anything our country needs since the day they took over the House.

His own party knew too much was at stake here. An estimated 160 billion into the economy when we really need this infusion to get out of this recession. Expired unemployment benefits are going to lead to another round of foreclosures , unless congress extends the benefits next. We bailed out the bankers and auto industry, it's time to at least throw the american people a bone. All this posturing by both parties in the senate and the house is sickening. What really needs to happen in 2012 is to clean house of all these career politicians. No one is even really making a stink about Washington State losing our sales tax deduction. This will cost the average family $2000. here in april @ tax time. Call you Senator and represenative and let's try and get this re-stored. The States with income taxes are still able to deduct state income tax.

What's fake about it?
Is it surprising that if you get money now, you won't get it later?
You could take the money you get now, invest it, and have more down the road than SS would deliver to you anyway, right? Isn't that what the GOP has been after for years?

Careful there, Dan...you're moving into an area that requires more than one thought at a time.
You're being given the opportunity to privatize your own Social Security...just as they tell you you should want. Now be a good boy like they say you should, take the extra money and don't spend it...invest it in some hedge fund that will go belly up in a year or two, and then blame it on poor people.
Fish on...

I will start off by stating I know very little about politics but wasn't the house's plan a 12 month extension? So why did the President want to go with the Senate's plan of only 2 months? Doesn't that mean in 2 months we will just be back to a battle over another extension?

Yes, we will...it was the "other stuff" in the plan that derailed the year long plan.
Politically speaking the Prez would do well to have this conversation every two months for another year. Just like this week's plan, all he can do is win, and all the R's can do is lose. They either "cave" to the President, as is being reported now, or they can say "no" to the payroll tax exemption extension and tell all of their constituents why it is more important for them to play politics than it is to put a couple grand in each of their pockets.
It's a conversation that will not go well, not with elections coming up.
The R's should push for a year long plan and just take their lumps one more time, instead of taking their lumps every 30 or 60 days until election time.
From the Prez's perspective, he played this perfectly...it benefits him politically, and makes most Americans happy...the best possible outcome for him.

You are in the minority feeling so, as you are are contradicting everyone on both sides of the aisle...they know what will happen, which is that most everyone will use the money, not save it, and that is many, many dollars going into the economy. It will probably even cause a hard to measure bump in Christmas sales today, as folks now can budget a few hundred more bucks for the next coupla months. Fish on... Todd

You could take that on-average $160 you get for the tax holiday and invest it. Sure. Not knowing if that's going to be a sure thing after two months, what do you suppose most folks will do with it? Spend it? Pay down debt? Bank it like RanyM does with her "stimulus" bucks? Was there a point you were trying to make? That the government is better qualified than you are to make your retirement investments? The "not knowing if it's going to be a sure thing after two months" isn't often heard when the GOP is flapping their gums about privatizing SS, so why the concern now? You've had less epic fails than this, but not many.

Right now they have an election to win and they can't be bothered with all of the problems that we have.
I sincerely hope that is some sort of joke, since that's what every Republican in Congress has been doing for a year so far...and I expect that's all they'll do for another year, too. Fish on... Todd

Chuck...didn't you just get a payroll tax break extension? You sure as fukk didn't get it from any Republicans...they had to go along with the Democrats, the ones who did, at least, because it was the right thing to do.
If your Republicans had their way there is NO WAY IN HELL you were going to get fuckall nothing. Ever.

Actually, Boehner tied himself a nice noose with this one, then stuck his head in it and dared everyone to hang him...which they did.
