Yummmmmm! I never knew Lopez Island was in Seattle. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2017113840_eatingsquirrels29m.htmlI especially like this comment. I enjoy the squirrels and racoons as well as the birds. I live in harmony with the animals and cherish them. You people who do not, apparently consider yourselves as masters of the earth and have no regard to the fact that we have encroached upon their territories. I hope there is karma for you who find it humane to torture and/or eat these creatures.

Nothing wrong with squirrel. I thought it was even better than robin.

My lab can catch and toss a squirrel 10' in the air pretty quick. I don't have any of them critters around here to sample as table fare. I won't let him kill 'em but don't mind watching the chase.

I have eaten squirrel, rabbit and crow (in more than one respect) and each are palatable. Urban foraging has always been sort of an interesting idea to me; in the event of economic collapse or the start of a zombie war, I wonder how long it would take to be able to notice a significant impact to, or dwindling of the natural fauna, or if people are in fact smart enough to realize that protein is not only available but abundant.
This gal is a survivor, is imaginative and has chutzpah! Who cares what PETA thinks.

Even God says it's okey-dokey to eat critters. Damn, even when they're lookin' at ya with those big brown eyes ? I've got some tree rats I've befriended. Couldn't eat 'em. Well, mebbe if I was really hungry.

Big brown eyes? Hard to imagine you've never seen a cow or a deer. Squirrel stew is pretty good...tastes like cat. Yeah, they're both kinda tough. Best to slow cook 'em.

I enjoy the squirrels and racoons as well as the birds, mostly in a nice stew with potatoes and carrots.
I recall stories of my grandfather hunting squirrels in the Ozarks. Hillbilly Prime Rib! I can hear his banjo know. I suppose I have a little squirrel in my DNA.

Back in WI at 10yrs old I got my first rifle, old single shot .22lr with a 2X scope . . . . .I was hell on the gray tree rats. . ..would bring home 2-3 most weedend days .. . Dad knew lots of good ways to cook squirrel . . . .tasty ! !
Come to think of it, those lil bastages were probably considered "organic" since they lived out in the big woods and ate nothin man made. . . . . . .

I can’t imagine why some folks get all uptight about foods they haven’t tried. It’s pretty much all a matter of your culture. I have eaten fruit bat soup, giant clam sperm sacks, muktuk, bush cow AKA tapir and just about anything that is considered edible by the culture where I was visiting. I did draw the line at stinky head.
When I hear some uptight person get all silly about what they consider a strange food I just ask if they would eat an embryo after it came out a bird's [Bleeeeep!], paired with some strips of salted pig belly.
I have not had squirrel, but imagine it’s pretty tasty.

I think the time Ryley and I went to Nicaragua we did try the jungle rat. As I recall it did not taste like chicken.

squirrel hunting always seemed like it'd be a lot of fun and challenge. too bad you never see the eastern grays(the only kind that's legal to hunt on the westside) outside city limits.

Dave, I've had Iguana fajitas more than once. Not bad at all. Not to mention whatever it is that served on the taco carts in some of the small towns South of the border. Pretty good stuff.
If I had to choose between being a vegan or eating rodent I'd happily prepare whatever type of rodent is abundant in my area. Having said that, a well marbled rib eye and lobster tail will always be my preferance. Throw in some conch ceviche and you have a very well balanced meal.

I hunted squirrels both in New Jersey and Oklahoma. Plentiful, fun hunting, and good eating.
