I disagree that some of those should be considered flagrant. Fouls 1, 2, 6 I wouldn't consider flagrant, although 6 was a stupid foul because the opposing player clearly had the rebound.

#3 was a hard foul with his bicep while his arm was extended straight up. If you really wanted to foul someone hard and with meaning, you wouldn't do it like that...however, it looked like he purposely followed through with his arm to the other guy's face and the ball was no where near the point of contact. So maybe 34 has really poor motor/body skills. slap

#4 was very intentional as it was a straight up push as he had no chance of recovering the loose ball and was probably ticked that he let the smaller guy tip it away after he initially got the rebound. Again dumb/frustration foul.

#5 was bad but it looked worse because he was high in the air during the layup and had a hard fall after the foul. But the smug look on his face didn't help matters and his over-aggressive fouling prior would have warranted a flagrant foul, technical or ejection at that point.

Nothing wrong with playing aggressive and fouling hard to prevent any chance of a three point play. But rather than knock a guy down with a hard foul and walk away with a smug grin, help the guy up. There did seem to be more hard fouls by Connell than a normal game but just because a guy hits the floor doesn't mean an automatic flagrant foul.

I'd be complaining to the WIAA about the referees...if I were coaching, I'd go to the refs and say that there are two ways to defend my kids...you call the flagrant fouls and get that jackass out of the game, or I will send my biggest guy in to defend my players.

The refs let the game get out of hand and deserve more backlash than the kid or the coach, though they deserve plenty, too.

Fish on...

I never played basketball and I see no basketball skills by that kid with what was shown. It looks like he is out there for one thing and that is to be a goon. He will end up hurting or paralyzing someone who truelly has skills and potential.

If that kid wants to play a sport to get pushed around he should play hockey--then he can learn what happens when your on the wrong end of a cheap shot artist like Carcillo.

The refs should have warned the coach on number 4 and warned the whole team and kicked him out on number 5. All the rest were just hard fouls. If you dont like it rough stay out of the paint. Anyone that says basketball is a non contact sport never played.

They have #34 playing "enforcer" as he clearly has no basketball ability as well as being fat and slow. It was obvious he was going to try and foul out of the game, and this is not uncommon for high school teams to do. The coach knew what he was going in there to do.

Basketball is a physical game, and the types of fouls shown happen once or twice in almost every HS b-ball game. The chances of someone getting seriously hurt by the fat kid flailing his arms are the same as landing on someone's ankle. This player isn't dirty though, dirty players don't get caught (like John Stockton). He is just a bad player. Skilled dirty players, step on your toes, grab your shorts, elbow you in the ribs, slap your nuts, and any number of good dirty player tricks. Dirty players end up getting retaliation fouls against the other team all the time.

If the refs did call flagrant fouls on one of these I would choose #4 because he came down with his arm or the frustration foul by the kid who had the ball stripped because it was just dumb. Those hurt as the opposing team gets the rock back, and the coach would learn a lesson.

Kids will be kids.....the fat one needed a good nut slap, though.

The coaches and the refs should have straightened it out.
For starters, the red team coach should have been right up in the refs' faces at the start of the bullschitt.

If you watch a lot of HS sports you will see fat and slow fat and fast kids but typically it is more about a mixed skill level. My guess is the coach wanted them to intimidate the other players. Our coach did the same with us his saying was if they come in the paint he wanted them to leave in pain. If we did not use our fouls we had to run extra lines in the next practice. The weaker teams would resort to outside shooting and we would typically beat them. Larry Bird was just as dirty as Laimbeer and so was Jordan.

Looks like a fat uncoordinated kid trying to play defense to me.

The general sentiment towards this video only furthers my stance on the sport: basketball is played by pussies and watched by pussies.

I gotta question a parent filming this, editing it, and then posting it on Youtube. I understand the frustration level here as the big kid shows no skill at all in the clips. If you want to supply the video to the WIAA that is fine, to put it on the internet is classless IMO. The 2 "flagrant fouls" on players going to the hoop should have been called intentional fouls. The shove on the player during the chase for the loose ball isn't a big deal. As a matter of fact, the shoved player is illegally screening for his teammate to collect the ball and that wasn't called either.

That kid is probably on the team because Connell is small enough that they need bodies to fill out a team. The population of Connell is only 3,500 people.

Not sure if it was this exact video or not but I believe it was taken by someone who was investigating the officiating of the league or lack of it.

The kids football coach should encourage him to get off the basketball court and go hit the weights on the offseason or stack hay and take that game to next years football season

And actually it is legal to set screens in basketball, it is an old and almost lost art in todays game. As long as the player setting the screen has his feet set, then it is legal.

The fact that this was placed on U-tube and edited the way it was shows clearly this was not from the league. rolleyes The fouls are hard but flagrant.....only one. When I started watching this I thought we were going to see something terrible but after watching the first three minutes and seeing how it was edited, I thought you have got to be kidding me. I could not believe that some POS edited and tarnished a teenager on the web with this. If they are adults they should have the a$$ whoopin. Then came the fourth foul.

Now the fourth foul was dumb and he could have been thrown out for it but his reaction is even worse. Now lets remember as a young kid getting yelled and booed from the stands, he likely did not know what to do or how to act and ended with the smug smile. Looks bad but remember this is a kid in high school, a teenager. The kid has not grown into his size or cordination and likely little understanding of how to use his size. Go watch any HS game this week and you will see every one of those fouls except the fourth one in every game. The fourth foul can be seen when you turn on the NBA and college ball every other game.

Now the A-hole placing the names and faces of teenagers online with editing out all content except what can make them look bad.....If an adult, that would be ground for a major a$$ kicking and should have some child privacy law against it. Names of minor can not be released by the media or faces shown. How about the web?

Was talking with a friend of mine who used to referee youth soccer from low level youth leagues to high school and the elite select teams. He said one of the big problems he had was deciding, especially in the high school and low level leagues, whether what happened was a foul or if it was simple clumsiness. Being clumsy apparently isn't a foul.
