They might have beaten LSU last night, but JJ was runnin' scared because of that Bama defense. Didn't help that Les was off his meds and staring into headlights all night.

Don't know if I have ever seen such a smothering college defense like Bama's. Add a functioning offense and they were unbeatable.

The PAC is getting stronger and I hope we can spank those moonshiners very soon.
Those moonshiners set a high bar.

Fixed it for ya wink

I believe the poor QB play was caused by great defense.

That 'bama team would have dismantled anyone from the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 used to play defense. Apparently, that's a lost art on the west coast these days.

JJ isn't a great QB to begin with.
The Bama pass rush did its job.

One thing about the Alabama defense that really pops out at you is the size of their athletes and their closing speed.
They have multiple 6'4" 240-260 lbs linebackers and ends that run like deer. LB intercepts a shovel pass and blows out his leg.
Next guy fills in and they don't miss a beat.
Corners that can actually tackle and aren't afraid to lay the wood on someone. Very nice to see after watching so much terrible Pac 12 defense this year.

I don't see JJ getting drafted after that poor performance.

One thing that equalizes size is speed. I would have liked to see the Ducks get a shot but they crapped in the pond. They were not teh same team by the end of the year they were in that first game. I think they would have certainly given a better game than the one we watched. OKst as well would have at least added a little excitement. It is sad that I switched to basketball before the end of the national championship game.

We need a playoff in college without a doubt. I dont think these two teams would have been there if that was the case. Maybe but I doubt it. Certainly would have gave more excitement had they fought to get there through schools like OKst, Ore. arkans or even standford.

Now we get a national champ that did not even win their division? Sounds starnge but that is how the SEC and ESPN like it.

Yes, there was quite a group of "Sunday" quality players out there.

It does to some extent, but those moonshiners have size and speed.
Oregon hung 27 (I think) on LSU but when they broke into the secondary there was still pursuit capability out there to deal with.
One good Bama safety hit on the little Black Mamba and he's broken.

That fast pass rush forces an option QB to think and react faster....many can't such as JJ.
Oregon's DT couldn't at times against Auburn last year.

True DD but it certainly would have made for an interesting game. When Bama put up the third field goal that game was done. That would not have been the case against Ore. or OKst. Each of those teams stretch the field. LSU does not and bama sat on them. I think those other teams would have thrown them out of their run heavy D and not allowed the DBs to play as much in the run support.

And JJ just played without a heart. Only heart he showed all game was his tackle on the pick. I dont know what the hell Les was thinking. Lee could have created a spark at least. That game just sucked. And this was a good college season. Pretty boring ending to a good year and good BCS bowls.

Yep, give JJ a set downs at the start of the 3rd, then put Lee in if JJ craps out.
Les is going to get tortured over that one for the entire off-season.

USC had a couple of Ds that just ate people in the last ten years. Some of the best linebacks for sure. Many shine on Sunday.

USC is going to be dangerous (again) next year.

Yes they are.
The Arizona Desert Storm D from the early 90's was pretty good as well.

The Smurfs would have been scattered like a covey of quail.

LSU is still a very good team. The Mad Hatter was out-coached.
I swear he had that thousand yard stare going on and just couldn't do his job. His kids needed him and he wasn't home, IMO.

Alabama's defense was the best I'd ever seen. And probably LSU's.

The pups could quite possibly have another Whammy... against LSU.
