Did I really see a report on a Tiger Musky caught on American lake the first few days of this week? It's gone now. Maybe it's just the 60's coming back to haunt me.

Ah, the great Tiger muskie scam. First, I don't know how the report got posted because I didn't approve it. I would have e-mailed the person first for confirmation. The e-mail address was bogus. The icing on the cake was alert reader Dave H. sending me a link to this Tiger Muskie Article which has the exact same picture. So, a scam it was. Like I don't have enough things to do without chasing down bogus muskie reports! beathead

Seems like there's been a handful of bogus fish reports...First all the 7 foot long sturgeon at Lake Washington and now Tiger Musky reports?

Well, at least the 7' sturgeon report is believable. Big sturgeon have washed up dead on Lake WA shores before.

It's a problem I try to stay on top of as best I can. I read each report before authorizing the post (again, I don't know how the muskie one slipped through, but I think it was a fluk). We posted an incredible 191 reports in March which was 50% more than last year. The site has really taken off as a place for anglers to report their fishing trips. Some of this is inevitable. rolleyes

I remember reading about the 11 foot sturgeon. Folks saw it jump a few times and reported it as some type of Loch Ness monster! lol
I read that biologist believe the fish was actually released into the lake in 1908. That is the year the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition was held on the UW campus. They had live sturgeon on display there. After the expo ended, the fish were dumped into Lake WA.
That 11 foot fish was likely well over 100 years old when it died. With little or no angling pressure and lots of dead stuff to eat on the lake bottom, you can see how it could have easily grown to that size.

Me neither. I chalk it up to the human condition. Just causes more work that I could better spend time on adding site content.
