It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Gays already have the same protection as hetrosexuals Do not. You're right. They can't get a marriage license. Other than that, same bennies. I couldn't care less. Doesn't affect me one bit and if it did I still wouldn't care. Most religions teach thou shalt not judge. Seems we all do in one way or another. Excluding me, of course.

I talked with a judge about two weeks ago when I was best man at a wedding. The judge said there were 170 legal differences between marriage and living together. She also said that most of that 170 differences were at the federal level.
I didn't ask her to name them, and I may have the exact number wrong, but I pass it along as I remember it.
If anyone wants to know the exact number, I can find out......but does it matter?.....The point is, there are differences.

I don't give a sh!t about this issue. I just get tired of conservatives pulling out the "tolerant liberal card" claiming they are hypocritical because they don't agree some idiotic right wing idea.

Keta, there is a difference between disagreeing and intolerance. You can't have diversity without difference and tolerance, so where is the tolerance on the side shouting for tolerance?
BTW, tolerance and acceptance are compatible ...... even without agreement

BTW, tolerance and acceptance are compatible ...... even without agreement I know all that , that's all very obvious. Like I said, it's the conservatives that seem to expect the more likely tolerant liberals to be tolerant of everything and if they are not they are called hypocritical. It's a stupid tactic if you honestly analyze it.

I thought the left was supposed to be tolerant of those who have different beliefs. But, if you're against gay marriage, you're a f'n religious zealot. Seems just a bit hypocritical. Very consistent, but hypocritical.
No, you're just missing the point. Being tolerant of different beliefs does NOT imply tolerance of people who "believe" they should be able to stomp on others rights and freedoms. You have LOADS of freedom to do what you want TO YOUR SELF and those who CHOOSE TO DO THEM WITH YOU. The difference is you want to give yourself benefits (like marriage, or the option to be in the military, or the right to build a church wherever you feel like) but you are UNWILLING to grant those rights to everyone else, and you do that under the guise of "it's my beliefs that YOU should not have those freedoms". That's a giant wheelbarrow full of BS, and calling "libs" the hypocrites is the shovel full on top.

At last some clarity. The issue doesn't matter as long as you are on one side of the fence and the conservatives are on another. Arguing about the meaning of a word. deja vu What does 'is' mean anyway. laughable.

What is idiotic about some people believing marriage is between a man and woman? mar·riage   /ˈmærɪdʒ/ Show Spelled[mar-ij] Show IPA noun 1. a. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. Antonyms: separation. b. a similar institution involving partners of the same gender: gay marriage. Antonyms: separation. Do you think gays would endorse a bill called "gay marriage?" I know the answer to that.

Don't Like Gay Marriages? Don't Get one. Don't Like Cigarettes? Don't Smoke. Don't Like Abortions? Don't have one. Don't like Sex and Porn? Don't do it or watch it. Don't Like Drugs? Don't use them. Don't like Alcohol? Don't drink it. Don't Like Guns? Don't buy one.
Don't Like your rights taken away? Then don't try to take away someone elses.

"Idiotic" was not intended to be specifically for this issue but a blanket description of issues that ditto heads pull out the hypocritical tolerant liberal BS to attempt to discredit their opposing position. The State should get out of marriage licenses and just deal with the legalities of property division and child support when a marriage fails. I still have never heard how gays getting married effect heteros getting married. What's the big issue here?

There's pretty much unlimited job security for divorce lawyers with all those "sancity" marriages out there already...I doubt this would appreciably increase the barrage...unless, of course, straight people realize that the sanctity of their marriage has now been compromised because two dudes they've never met or never will meet have now had a "wedding" and are "married"...those "our sanctity is ruined!" shitferbrains will just have to get divorced now, as a protest.
Fish on...

Really, Ranty? I've already stated that I don't care if they marry or not. It is none of my business and I'm not in a position to judge others morality. Marriage still shouldn't be state sanctioned contract. Marriage should be up to the church.
I'm only pointing out that others have a fundamental belief that it is immoral. It's not up to me to judge those who are for or against it. I guess it is your responsibility though.
I should FOAD? You're pure class.

I think that if someone has a fundamental belief that it is immoral, then that's just fine and dandy by me...but if they take their "belief" and try to stop others from enjoying their lives because they think it's "immoral", then they can fukkoff.
Those who think it's immoral should not do it...and those who think it's not immoral should do it, if they want to...
Fish on...

Ranty, there is no but. It doesn't affect me and I don't discriminate. I've hired openly gay people and we talk about our significant others all the time. I couldn't care less who they are with. We ski together, fish together, eat together, we've even been in the same church together.
As with all civil liberties issues our country has tackled, they have all taken time. This one will too and in the end, common sense will prevail. The only thing that galvanizes people, for or against, are people who feel it is their right to tell the other side what to believe. You do that very well. I will defer my opinions to you. After all, you're a climatologist, transportation engineer, political science expert, financial expert, foreign affairs expert, sociologist, etc..... Pretty f'n funny, if you ask me.
