MF, i grew up with Barry (watching, not litterally), hes one of my favorites, but statistically, hes no Jim Brown, Brown in 9 seasons went over 1000 yards,(well over in some cases), lead the league 8 times, is the only player in NFL history to average over 100 yards per game through career, and has a 5.2 yard average... Barry is 5.0 yards per carry, and even his dad said that Brown was the best hed ever seen... but since i grew up with Barry, its kinda a difficult one for me... stats dont lie tho...
Jack Tatum Butkis Bruce Smith Earl Campbell and even Dickerson are some of my favorites as well...

Arguably the greatest athlete in American history is Jim Thorp. He could play darn near any sport. Imo

What about Bo Jackson?

Namath never compiled big stats, I think you like him for another reason.

if you ever compare Jordan to James again, ah hell, i wont do anything, but DONT do it again... thats sacreligious...
alot of people dont know just how great George Blanda really was, dude played a few positions, on both offense and defense...
i started this thread, because i read that people were stealing the football from Ernie Davis's grave in NY, the GREAT Ernie Davis, the first black Hiesman winner, that died before he could ever even have a real chance to shine... he was supposed to be in there with Brown, but didnt... dear god what a tandem that would have been...

i said Campbell earlier one of the greatest power backs of all time for sure... him and Tatum went head to head, and both of em got knocked the F out... true football players...
even in recent news, LT (NOT Tomlinson) is still a great, and a legend as well...
salmo, you compare Emmit to Sanders, and say going backwards? Barrys lifetime YPC is 5.0, Emmits is like 4.2... if Barry played as long as Emmit did, with the line that he did, there would be no touching that record... Emmit to Sanders, is like Ruth to Aaron...

A lot of people don't realize that not only did Jordan win a lot of scoring titles, he also won defensive player of the year multiple times.

Bo was a great, but Jim Thorpe's achievements are the greatest ever. Way beyond any of the greats mentioned here on this thread.
2 Olympic gold medals in track. Played professional Football, Basketball, and Baseball. Voted Worlds greatest athlete for the twentieth century. 4 time All American at 4 positions. ect........

Out of all the sports in all the time, nobody...nobody, owned the game like Jordan. How can one guy be that much better, more intense, more focused than his peers on a level playing field?
Pele in soccer might come close.
Some may dismiss this because it's hockey. But, Gretzky OWNS the records. Talk about not being close. A thousand more points than 2nd in 300 fewer games.

They'll have to rewrite the record books when Calvin Johnson retires. He might replace Payton on my list.

Gretzky is the Jordan of Hockey. You would have to consider Tiger pre scandal. I doubt he breaks Jack's Major wins now.
