A 14 MP Fuji Finepix S2940 digital (that i used today) 250 bucks..

Will probably not get you a razor sharp, full frame, photo of a jet a mile away doing 600 MPH. But . . . you can improve your chances if you crank the ISO up to 400 and the shutter speed up to 1/1000 or faster. Play with it at various ISO speeds until the images get too grainy for your taste. Most newer digitals will shoot fine at 400 ISO some will go even higher. Once you have the highest ISO you can use and still avoid too much grain, see how fast a shutter you can use and still shoot at an aperture of F8 or larger. (Most good digitals have a shutter priority setting.) Turn it to shutter priority then set at 1/1000 and see what aperture it chooses. If you get something higher than F8 you can up the shutter speed unit the aperture is at F8. Other than that all you can do is try panning as you shot. Follow the airplane for a good long ways before you squeeze the shutter and try to follow thru at the same speed.

Then get some good photo editing software, crop, sharpen and adjust luminescence, clarity, tint and sharpness and you will have a pretty decent photo.

I just bought Adobe Light table and am learning how to use it. Send me a couple of your best and I will see if I can improve them.

Good Luck!

or, should i just fvck with a 250 dollar camera like i am, and see if i can get better potential out of it?

Take the one you know how you use. Even if you only paid $32.46 for it.

There are many choices in balancing shutter speed, aperture and ISO for desired outcomes. Dave proffered a good starting point. Old guys know a thing or three.....

And Dan's comments usually result in a smile

today was difficult, and frustrating... we were about 400 yards from the runway, and the planes were moving extremely fast, as there was cloud cover, so it was a low show... ramped up the ISO to 400, and left it at that, some of the pictures came out ok, some would have been excellent, but came out blurry... anyways, i think these are probably the better ones... i think for pics of fish, scenery, ect, this camera will be fine, but i will have to look into a wider angle camera, tracking these jets was a pain in the [Bleeeeep!]....

There's some good shots in there. I like the P-51 flying with that jet. Looks pretty innocuous now, doesn't it?

the expensive cameras were my fathers, he was an extremely well rounded, and good photographer... if i were to spend 3+ grand on a camera, it wouldnt be a film camera, it would be a digital with a telephoto lens...

i was looking at a few last night, the Eos looks nice, even the base Lumix kit for like 600 for a 16.0 MP looks good too, havent researched the lenses tho...

i may end up just trading the Hasselblad for a digital, ive been pondering it for quite a while actually... the camera bodys arent really that expensive, you can get them for 3-500 bucks usually, the lens on this one tho, was 2700, if i could get half that, i could get a pretty decent camera with the money.... but im not going to just give it away...

Slab, the jet with the P-51 is an F-16, the last show it was flying with an F-15, its pretty cool to see the old, and the new, together...

All my kids are grown and gone.....and older than you.
I have one granddaughter who is married and has been for about 5 years.

So you getting the idea about how much of a young smart [Bleeeeep!], dumb fvck you are?

Of course you don't. Your issues are your issues....deal with them or keep running away from them and die tired. Your choice, Bucko.

Pot, Kettle, Black.

Duc keeping the pic is almost as creepy that Salmosalar follows Duc around on the web. Kinda similar to Abu following RH. Just ironic that Salmos and abu are so busy chasing others they have no time to look in the mirror.

Got to watch some of that air show as I was on my way to Westport on Saturday.

Traffic came to a crawl on I-5 at the base. In the time I spent creeping along I-5, I got to see:

A Sandy (A-1) Skyraider
B-52 fly over
B-2 Stealth Bomber

Figured if and when I become filthy rich, I always wanted to by a Corsair (just because of The Black Sheep Squadron), an A-1 Skyraider (coolest prop combat plane of all time) and a C-130.

A-1 Skyraider, loaded, crappy crappy picture... about a half mile away, and way into the digital zoom, might make a few calls today about that lens for the Hasselblad and anyone that would be willing to trade a digi for it...
