Just saw on the news that because of the shortage of corn, not only will corn and other crop prices be going through the roof (which makes sense to me), but also the price of beef/pork/chicken, etc........which does NOT make sense to me, except in the very short term.

Common sense (a commodity easily as rare as corn smile ) dictates that when the market becomes glutted with all the slaughtered critters, the price will drop.....just how dramatically remains to be seen.

Just my old, dumbazz 2 cents

They should turn what corn is available into food; for us and for said beef/pork/chickens, NOT for [Bleeeeep!] grade biofuel.

BTW, was just visiting family in eastern OR. Corn farmers. Crop is the best they've had in years, price has already doubled. They're loving it...

On CNN they ran a bit on the ag prices and have not seen anything to counter the thoughts. Beef will drop a bit as ranchers reduce herds do to the drought then rise sharply as inventory is down ( got breed and rear em ) for some time. All grain fed / lot reared will just climb as the shortage will be reflected in prices right now.

Here is a quick read paste. http://www.independentmail.com/news/2012/jul/31/drought-cost-relief-stalled-farm-bill-bickering/

A nice thought, Aunty, but the drought is also affecting grass production. To put that issue in perspective, consider that in Texas, which has been in an historic drought for a few years now, farmers have been buying hay from places as far off as Michigan. My guess is that we'll start to see a resurgence of the regrettable art of cooking with less than premium proteins (guts) in the coming months/years, as the real depression starts to take hold.

Raising cattle in a virtual desert is beyond stupid. [Bleeeeep!] Texas and I hope their next export will be something the spineless Stetson wearing, big buckled, little d!cked phucks know something about.....tortillas and beans.

If Texas had the bright progressive minds of California we'd be diverting all of our rivers to them....
