Just curious who has not filled there tags yet? And if anybody has been out? I got out briefly on the 23 rd, only to have the fog settle in on me and I could not see 25 ft in front of me. That was tough hunting. Plan on hitting 651 tomorrow, any reports Dogfish? Or are you spending more time in the boat?
Chris

I found one today, small spike. Satsop unit. We had three deer in range in about two hours of hunting my honey hole. Not the biggest deer, certainly not the biggest rack, but I am now on to elk. Sorry for the gore, but the headshot was the only option.

Well not the kind of weather that I thought we would have today, blue skies and a brisk wind. I got in on a small doe first thing and passed looking for something larger. Never saw anything else durring daylight, but had one in the bushes right next to the truck after dark when I opened the door it jumped off?? Are there any gated roads further south, we hunted around Matlock and Bingham Cr and had more traffic through there then I would like to see.
Thanks,
Chris

A friend and his son got shots at two more yesterday, same area as mine. Brandon was able to get his first deer.

Hey all...this is a combined report/be careful out there warning.
Went out Saturday afternoon in the Satsop unit (thanks again for the info provided last year Dogfish). 2 minutes after pulling off the blacktop spotted a deer 20 yards from the logging road I was driving in on. Stopped to load the gun and do some walking but couldn't find the same animal as the brush was pretty thick. Decided to walk a spur road and what pops out 50 yards in front of me...another deer. Brought my gun up and pull the trigger. Nothing. A misfire...deers goes on its way. Poked around a bit more, but didn't see anything else that afternoon.
The next morning I headed out again and was headed North on 101 before daylight (just past Verle's) when the truck goes sideways and starts heading for the shoulder, countersteer and think I might be able to recover, but the truck starts sliding the other direction, crosses the centerline and the front tires hit the gravel shoulder. I bet you guys know what happened next. The stopping action of the gravel on my front tires whipped the back end of my truck around then when the back tires hit the gravel I rolled. As I'm sure you all know this happened in a flash. I'm pretty sure the truck is totaled, but I'm thankful my son and I came away unhurt...no bruises, no scratches, nothing.
At any rate I just thought I'd let everyone learn from my experience....I wasn't going fast for normal conditions (50 mph), but didn't have it in 4 wheel because the roads had been fine up until that point. While being yanked out at least half a dozen other cars got side ways and another 2 hit the embankment/guard rail despite the flares, police lights, tow truck etc. In hindsight, I should have been looking for slick roads, had it in 4 wheel and been going a whole lot slower.
...still thankful no one got hurt.

Little Fish, glad you are O.K. But 4 wheel drive would not have saved you...
Not much going on in the ML world so far. Wife doesn't understand why we are still hunting as i have a deer and brother in law and his wife both have elk... She will never understand.
We have seen legal bulls every day but still no shots.
I take that back, i shot a 5x4 on thanksgiving, but 3 guys shot it after it stumbled over a little ridge 50 yards away. 123 yard shot right behind the shoulder. I quit rifle hunting because of this mentality of shoot it untill it quits moving... And i don't care if you shoot it my bullet was in it last so it's mine... Pretty sad.

Glad your OK Little Fish. We started hitting some nasty ice out near Matlock Saturday morning, and helped one other hunter out of the ditch. Was glad to get onto the logging roads.
Take it easy out there,
Chris

Thanks guys.
Talked to a buddy who is up for a little more time walking around in the woods so the hunting season may not be over yet. Will keep you posted if I have success.

My son was able to bag his first deer this year (using a CVA M/L). This is his 3rd season and he was quite excited when he saw it go down. He made a great shot from about 45 yards out. It is not the largest deer but as he says it sure is tasty! http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com/uploads/UP9953.jpg Andy - we had a good time hunting with you and appreciate you taking some time to help out with the location.

Got mine yesterday during late muzzleloader. Not a buck, but I think it must be a damn large doe. The thing looked bigger to me than any other doe I've shot. After being gutted, skinned, and head cut off, it weighed in at just over 100 pounds at the butcher. I don't know what she weighed live, but she seemed like a really big doe. 125 yards with the gun Fisherdan told me to get; T/C Xrange Black Diamond. 405 grain bullet with 110 grains of pyrodex. I was using that load for elk, but decided to stick with it for deer because I had it dialed in at 100 yards. No suffering here, she dropped right where she was standing. Good luck to you all. Still got another weekend. BMF

Found a plump doe 2 weekends ago in one of my dad's old satsop areas. Hadn't been there in years.......boy! did that area get appetizing. I know where I'm going next season. Saw 8 head on the day. This one had a big spike and another doe with her, the latter 2 long gone before a shot could be had on the spike. Ended up being a 70 yard neck shot......OK so I was aiming behind the shoulder but shooting iron sights, free-standing.....I'll take it! No wasted meat either I haven't shot many does and normally try to hold out for antlers but she was good sized and it will get me back on the river 2 weeks sooner so no complaints. Dogfish, do we shoot the same rifle? I use the Remington Model 700ML and the gun in your pic looks the same.
