Well now that I've got it....does anyone wish to share their thoughts on permits worth putting in for? Some of those second tag opportunities seem like the way to go, but unfortunately for me the ones that looked good are archery only.

I have applied for AHE cow hunts and though I have been drawn a couple times, the areas either held very few elk or gaining access to the "heart" of the unit was hard.

The whole idea behind most AHE elk hunts is to drive elk out of areas that they are causing damage in. Usually this will be private land where elk are not generally at and not supposed to be at, such as farmlands. The exception is the few bull permits that are incentives to get people to become AHE graduates I believe.

Some of the permit hunts are pretty good if you put your time in to get access. One of the best is not a permit hunt, but the 3911 and 3912 extended cow hunts that last for 5 months are a pretty high percentage hunt if you can put in the time. Get your first cow by a certain date and you get to go and get another. Two elk, no permit needed. If you need contact info for the 3911 & 3912 areas, let me know.

Now that I am done with my masters, I'll have a lot more time to hunt this year.

I would be interested in some contact info, especially for early august as I start law school mid-august and will have limited hunting time after that.
