Are you with Big Bird?
Dear Friend:
The complete elimination of federal funding for PBS is back in the national dialogue—in spite of the fact that 7 in 10 Americans oppose eliminating federal funding for PBS.
Because of the comments made at the Presidential Debate this week, I want to make sure you have accurate information and to ask you to voice your support for KCTS 9.
We are the only media entity charged with serving the American people not selling to them, and we must work now to preserve and protect that mission.
Join us at 170millionamericans.org today to make your voice heard.
Cutting federal funding for public broadcasting won't make a dent in the budget deficit, but it will cripple the ability of public television stations like KCTS 9 to bring you…
... trusted, unbiased news programs like PBS NewsHour and FRONTLINE; … noncommercial, educational children's programs like Sesame Street and Curious George; ... illuminating documentaries on programs like American Experience and Independent Lens; ... arts and culture programs like Masterpiece, Great Performances and American Masters; …local programs like When Seattle Invented the Future, Undamming the Elwha, Reel NW, and KCTS 9 Connects.
Learn the facts about the costs—and benefits—of public broadcasting to our country at valuePBS.org. Then forward this email to five friends. Together, we will protect Big Bird.
Thank you for all you do to support KCTS 9,
Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan President & CEO

PBS isn't going to be cut.......people won't put up with it. Personally I've not donated a lot to PBS, but I suppose my total donations amount to about $500 during their fund raising times.

I like having PBS. All advanced civilized nations have public broadcasting. It's a natural and logical asset for an advanced and affluent nation. If the US can't afford PBS, that's a dark statement about the "state of the nation" IMO. the "state of the nation" is so dark, if we keep spending public funds on public broadcasting, and other feel good assets, we will cease to be advanced or affluent. Let them sell advertising just like everyone else. There are dinosaurs in every market. Borrowing money to keep them on life support, is indefensible.

To donate SG call 1-800-443-1999 they are in the middle of a pledge drive now.
Common sense says when you are broke which the US is you cut everything but what is needed to survive. Is PBS essential? I watch mostly documentaries and you can find most of them elsewhere. Takes a bit of searching but you can get them.

There are dinosaurs in every market. Borrowing money to keep them on life support, is indefensible. Well said! As you descend into decrepituity, keep those thoughts in mind. You may get a letter like this one someday... Dear Mr. Fast and Fubar,
We are denying your request for a ventilator. Instead, we are sending a three day supply of Depends. Please return the vacuum pump we sent you previously. The proceeds from its sale will be used to fund PBS and NPR.
Sincerely,
Yer Guvmint

Not likely. When Obummer loses, we can then fix health insurance, so it benefits the patients.
Its likely the government already denies people medical, surgery etc. I was turned down on an L and I claim, initially and then at the end of the year, they sent a check.
There is a lot of fraud, in work claims.

Seriously, as a country if we are ever going to dig our sorry asses out of this financial hole that we are in, we are going to have to make sacrifices. Seems no one wants to sacrifice a damn thing and the debt time bomb just keeps on ticking.
Where the Hell do we begin?

When is more like it. Its like washington residents dont think we are in trouble. Oregon however is a closer race. The new swing state polls, including michigan and pennsylvania are moving towards Romney.

Tax increase? Repbulicans lie about taxes, Democrats lie about taxes...fact is..no way out other than a tax increase on all. Hope that doesn't bust anyones bubble but it is the truth. [Bleeeeep!]. Cut spending. Read the cato report on some of the governors, like gregoire. We are still going to come up short. Do you know what "current baseline budgeting" means?

Revenue is more important. Without revenue you have nothing. Nothing. Impossible to make expenses without revenue.
At the very least if you have revenue you have hope, if you have only expenses without revenue you're pretty much [Bleeeeep!]. You dont have a clue what you are talking about. Using your logic, no bid contracts dont matter, since all you have to do is raise taxes to pay for it. The non bidder could ream the customer and just give everyone a raise to make it look reasonable. We are not talking about a business. We are talking about the govt, that generally speaking does not provide value for its fees, fines and taxes. The roads make travel more efficient. People get more done, but the govt took the money from everyone to make the roads. The govt was nothing more than the middle man, who employees friends of the administration, at usually high wages and benefits. WE paid for the roads and a few select people who built the roads were paid handsomely, through the benefit of the Davis Bacon act, which was designed to protect the unions. None union shops would have to pay the same wages, so they would not undercut the cost of union shops. Essentially what you are enabling govt to do, is to give away the farm to Paul, while continually asking Peter to pay more taxes. At some point, Peter cannot pass on those taxes to his customers and his business fails. If you keep raising the percentage of taxes, business must either raise prices or cut other expenses, namely benefits and wages. And then people like you complain about jobs going overseas. If no one died in these wars, they would still be a waste of money, since we have not won and defeated the enemy. Running up the debt was wrong. Electing someone who ran up the debt twice as fast as the prior president is also wrong. I dont know if you work, so lets assume you own the business. Your manager goes out and buys a new Yacht. He comes back in and says boss, I need a raise to pay for my new Yacht. Thats what politicians do.

Don't know what you mean by no bid contractors unless you are talking about Haiburton.
Not sure but it seems to me that you think government is only good for building roads.
Simple minded - seriously - we are in a global economy and to say our government needs to be gone so we cam prosper is naive at the least...dangerous really.
Increase taxes for all & end the unfunded war.
You keep drawing the wrong conclusions. Of course the only thing you got right was Haliburton. It does not surprise me, you would know the name, because its not the no-bid contracts that bothered liberals. It was a rally cry, to oppose Cheney. Roads are just an example to prove the point. Government is a middle man on lots of projects. You draw the wrong conclusion on the global economy and the proper role, or the size of the role of the federal govt. I never said the govt needs to be gone. You did.

Incorrect Blue Water, the law that requires prevailing wages be paid on a project with public money provided as funding, is federal but the prevailing wage for a specific trade on a project is based on who has the majority market share in that area.

btw I've said this before & gotta say it again Davis Bacon Wages are federal & in no way compare to our states prevailing wage, no way compare to our states union wage. wrong again. All the "Federal" does is include all 50 states. Ive worked prevailing wage state projects. There was NO difference.
