Apparently the policy on all of the coastal treefarm lands they recently acquired is to leave all of their nice new gates permanently locked?

should make it less crowded if there's no road hunters. Get a cheap mountain bike?

That would be okay, I didn't actually read if the sign on the gates say no trespassing or no motor vehicles. They may make it pay to play like they do back east, as per their website.

They own the old weyerhuaser tree farms in greenwater and snoqualamie and charge to get in them. I buy the permit that allows you to drive in, every year. In years past you only had to pay to drive in, this year they are charging to be able to walk/ride in.

Something for nothing? You mean how the land was originally obtained?

i noticed that rayonier up this way never opened the usual open roads after the fire danger went away. they've really clamped down on access in recent years. 3 years ago, they were open from october to may, 2 years ago, october to february, last year they closed after modern season ended.
i don't care for road hunters, but it's a real bummer to lose fishing access to logging road gates. i'm not much of one for a 5 mile walk in to go fishing usually.

You're still road huntin whether it's off a bike or out of a truck, just more effort. As long as either are used to get to the point to start your hunt it shouldn't be an issue. Use to hunt the South side of I-90 at exit 38 and it was a 20 mile drive to the clearcut at the top of the ridge to hunt grouse, since the road washed out and the forest service is not going to fix it, nobody will get to hunt up there until they log the area again, if they ever do.

At 46 plus I can still lean my gun against a bike.
It gets me up a few miles into the woods past any walk-in in hunters, so I can start hunting. Didn't do much in the way of road hunting for elk this past week. We covered some serious ground, bum knee and all.

If I can do this at 46 years old, with a bum knee, I don't see why everyone else can't who is my age or younger. +1, although I would add a gun rack to the handlebars. Just about all the areas I hunt are walk in access only, and the bike is the only way to go. Nothing worse than going to the drive in areas and finding trash and man poo piles at the end of damn near every landing. Why would the timber companies want that? I see no benefit to them leaving their gates open, and hope that they keep them closed.

Damned fascists. They should be forced to let people do whatever they want on their private property, whenever people want, and whatever they want to do.
What do they think this is...America?
I think that those of you whining about closed gates should be forced to let the rest of us hunt in your backyards.
Fish on...
Todd

DF, do your kids go with you on bikes? Yup, sometimes. That is why I hunt muzzle loader and they hunt modern. I take them out in areas where there aren't that many people, for their safety, and the safety of others. Oldest boys is very safe, youngest is getting there. I can play guide and watch them like a hawk and not have to worry about others as much. Also, being guide makes it so I can carry out one of their rifles if they can't make the long ride back out without some assistance. The last time that happened was two years ago. Not saying we don't enjoy an easy hunt once in a while for suicidal deer, but that isn''t the norm.

I find it really retarded that someone would think that private owned land should be open to the public!! If you want to bitch, bitch about the DNR and NFS lands that are gated!

Simpson is one of the few that leases land for timber harvest in the state..
