"Hostess's plan to pay Mr. Driscoll $1.5 million in a yearly base salary plus millions more in additional awards—the full details of which Hostess didn't disclose—sparked the ire of a federal bankruptcy watchdog and one of the biggest unions in the case.

"They have amazing laws in this land that allow a company to file bankruptcy and give the CEO...such a lucrative contract while demanding deep, deep givebacks from its employees," Frank Hurt, the president of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, or BCTGM, said in an interview last month. "

This guy took the money and ran....typical. He's now sucking money out of Diamon Foods as it's CEO. Utter failure is still rewarding for the one percenters. The new "restructuring" CEO and Pres compensation isn't published. He's paid very well though as he was during the Worldcom "restructuring" and many others.

The company was down $345 million last year... maybe you could divide this CEO's million dollar income up between the workers but it won't do anything to offset the losses. Maybe they would'nt need that caliber of a manager if they were'nt dealing with three separate unions and 18500 upset employees? Correction... 18500 UN-employees.

No Timber that's not quite right. What SHOULD happen is the FTC and shareholders should have gone after them. People like this deserve to be in PRISON. Alongside the enron and wall-street guys. But alas not one of them are. Not one.

Just another way that an entirely different set of rules apply to the wealthy (who have the money to fight tooth and nail in court, if they ever get there) play not with a separate set of rules, but an entirely different GAME.

Thought experiment: what $$ in fraud should equal murder in terms of punishment? If you're a financial advisor and you bilk your clients out of $2M of their retirement, or $5M, or $10M. Does that rise to the degree that you'd punish a murderer? What $$ number is it for you?

How many companies would like to do away with "pension costs"?

The answer is: All of them.

How many companies would like to reduce worker comensation and benefits?

The answer is: Same as above.

"plus millions more in additional awards—the full details of which Hostess didn't disclose"

How does a publicly held company get away with not disclosing that? Especially one in bankruptcy.

Timber reminds me of the guy who's been sweeping the floor for 20 years, had all of his benefits taken away and his pay reduced every year but feels it's for the good of the company. A ball washer.

Hankster is just a hypocrite.

Romney will say let them go out of business. Obama will help save them then Romney will claim he saved them, just like the auto industry.

Yeah they are 25% owned by the Unions who should be told the details of the pay package don't you think?

The offer to the BCTGM (Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International) included wage, benefit and work rule concessions but also gave Hostess Brands’ 12 unions a 25 percent ownership stake in the company, representation on its Board of Directors and $100 million in reorganized Hostess Brands’ debt. BCTGM rejected this final offer in September.

I'm sure they did as it is one of the items that has to be approved by the shareholders and board of directors.

I know you all like to get your panites in a wad about CEO pay, but a good CEO can make a business or kill a business. Look no farther than Ford or Apple to see the value of a good CEO.

Contrary to popular belief, not all workers are equal and should not be paid as much..

Ypu. I'm wrong about the percentage as one union accepted but the other rejected. However, they were already owned an unknown percentage:

"With the leadership of Craig Jung, the company emerged from bankruptcy as a private company on February 3, 2009.[14] The plan included a 50 percent equity stake by Ripplewood Holdings and lines/loans by General Electric Capital and GE Capital Markets, Silver Point Finance and Monarch Master Funding. Interstate's union workers made contract concessions in exchange for equity."

"Effective November 2, 2009, the company was renamed Hostess Brands, Inc. after the cake division that featured Twinkies and cupcakes. Hostess continues its bread lines, including Wonder Bread."

"In March 2012, Brian Driscoll resigned from his position as CEO.[20] Gregory Rayburn, who had been hired and named Chief Restructuring Officer only nine days earlier, assumed the leadership position. Fortune reported that unions within the organization had been unhappy with Driscoll's proposed compensation package of $1.5 million, plus cash incentives and a $1.95 million "long term compensation" package. Additionally, the court had discovered that Hostess executives had received raises of up to 80% the year prior. In an effort to restore relations, Rayburn cut the salaries of the four top Hostess executives to $1, to be restored on January 1 the following year."

Absolutely! Like the fat cat CEO's of this country I too believe in "pay for performance". You don't perform you don't get paid. No golden parachute. No stock options. No bonus. Just like the rest of the employees. Even more so in a bankruptcy when you are seeking forgiveness of your debts.

It could probably be rolled into the Pentagon budget. Twinkies can be dropped on other countries as a weapon of mass destruction.
