i dont care for baseball much anymore, i used to alot, and collected alot of cards of very good players, sold em, collected more, sold em, upgraded, ect...im not new.. but this sh!t is funny...

My dad was given, and passed to me, a couple baseballs that were signed in the 30s. One was of the San Francisco Seals. Those autographs are a little faded and outside of Dom DiMaggio I am unfamiliar with most.

But, the other is from a team that went to Japan in the late 30s. Joe and Dom D, Tony Lazzeri, Lefty Gomez to high-grade. Sam Mele, Joe Marty, and others from the second tier.

Just seen a comercial about Drew Breeze doing an interview on "Person to Person" and he was holding a Ted Williams signed ball.

It went on to say something about that's why he is # 9

that puts the ball at 1947 because York played for both the Red Sox and White Sox in 1947, and retired with the A's in 1948... 1947 was also the last year Bill Butland played in the majors... 47 was Sam Mele's rookie year, Bill Zuber was only there in 1947 as well...

it was also the year that "The Kid", Williams won the triple crown... and the year he almost won MVP as well (he won 2 other times), but lost to Joe Dimaggio with 201 votes to Joes 202...

You don't have a Certificate of authenticity so not worth much. Plus the signatures are faded at best which further devalue the ball. However, pretty cool find just don't expect any monetary value.

ive been doing the sports thing for 25+ years, the people i know, trust me, i have yet to be turned down because i didnt have a COA/LOA... a while back we sold a Edgar Martinez signed bat for 100 bucks without a COA/LOA...

the fading isnt terrible on the autos that mean the most, but you are correct that fading does decrease value of the autos... the ones that are really faded (2) arent anyone important, so its all good in my book...

the guys i deal with have been in business for a very long time as well, one in particular specializes in old memoribilia and signatures during this time frame, as well as earlier and later... we could match the sigs to ones he has to further authenticate it... he would likely buy it for his collection and not selling as well...

the ball isnt an extremely valuable one either, not like a Ruth or Cobb ball, but still has some value, probably in the 400-1500 range, but most likely in the middle of that... it is a vintage REACH ball tho from the era it was signed, so that further guarentees authenticity as they were the balls used in the game during that time... REACH sold the company to Spalding in the late 1800s, but they were labeled REACH for the AL and Spalding for the senior circut... then in the 70s Rawlings bought the rights and started making the balls...

like i said, some Red Sox fan will appreciate it, im not into baseball anymore so its just an old ball with some good ball players on it, and one of the best to ever swing a bat...

if it was a football signed by the 72 Phins or the 88-89 Niners i would keep it for myself...

and name 10 players before 70 i would want on a ball? is that a joke? alrighty then... problem is, you would never see these players on 1 ball, unless you religiously traveled the states going to conventions and paying big money to get the signatures put on them before they died... impossible... plus the fact that they are probably all HOFers and that would be something that likely wouldnt happen either.... would take far too much time and too much money to accomplish it...

now i have left out a ton of great players from before 1970, but those names popped into my head, and obviously its more than 10... i could do it with baseball too... baseball today, for me, is garbage, too much controversy with steroids and such, im just not into it anymore... im not saying its a sh!tty sport, not knockin anyone for liking it, i just dont care for it anymore... i still collect the older players from the 1900s to the 60s when i get wild hairs, just not into any of it really any more... including football, i used to have a ton of stuff, rookies, autos, balls, bats, gloves, ect... but i dont anymore... i used to enjoy buying and selling, just not my thing at this time, so ive kinda substituted it with fishing, buying and selling old rods, reels, gear ect....

There was a baseball like this on pawn stars that they bought for $800 the other day. Signatures were in similiar condition and there was no certificate of authenticity, they did have an expert do a sig compare and she said it was legit.

agreed this would be worth money cause if they had the ticket stub plus ball signed it would be worth a couple hundred.

Chuck, a ball like that would only be worth the value of a "game used" auto ball pretty much... you may get a little more being that game, but not nessecarally, and not much, and heres why...

as you know, many balls are used in games, fouls, scrapes, fans snatching them, ect... so theres already a ton of balls used during the no hitter... a home run ball, is completely different.. because theres only 1 ball.. and if it comes at a point in MLB history, it makes it worth even more, like the Bonds and McGwire balls... McGwires sold for 3.2 million if i remember right when he hit the 72, and Bonds was something like 400k for both the 756, 762 HR balls, and the 73 homer year as well, cant remember.. they also arent signed...

theres only 1 of those balls tho, vs many used by a pitcher... the last ball that Felix threw, touched, ect, is probably going to be worth a bit more than just one ball from that game, but the problem with that is, its likely sitting in his house, and you nor i will ever own it, let alone see it in person... he doesnt need the money, and he threw a no hitter while playing for the damn Mariners, id keep it too, i mean its the Mariners for cryin out loud...

but, like you said, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.. my dad beat that into my head at a very young age, so i never got dissapointed when a shop owner gave me 15 bucks for a card that booked at 25, because 1, they had to make money, and 2, a book isnt someone paying for it....

the Bonds and McGwire balls are worth considerably less now, after the fiascos and such, but still would command quite a bit of money, but no where near what they sold for back then...

You wouldn't get that kind of money from a collector since there was at least 12 foul balls that game by the Rays, all those balls in the stands kind of dilutes the market.

Didn't catch my driftt I guess, the point is that Chuck would have some proof as where the signed ball came from. Where as redhoo'ks sandlot ball has none. It was just an example........

Let's just suppose Chuck's family catches a game used ball during the no hitter and has it signed no less. The claim that other foul balls would dilute the market is ludicrous. They would have a signed ball plus ticket stub on a somewhat historic night. Also, I agree with Redhook on this point, being in the Seattle area would up any Mariner memorabilia.
