Citigroup is laying off only 11000 workers world wide. Obama is good for the economy. So how is it a guy with an IQ of 148 still thinks the President controls the economy?

Citigroup is laying off only 11000 workers world wide. Obama is good for the economy. Actually this is representative of the GOP platform. Corps rule without oversight. Don't pay taxes. Layoff with impunity dumping the employees onto state UI and cut all federal UI or any other "entitlement" programs. The creation of serfs beholden to the mighty Fifedoms/Corporations for their very lives.

Low paying barista jobs. Woo hoo! Eventually there won't be "enough" trained baristas and we'll need a new type of work visa to bring in foreign "talent" to serve latte's.

I know $15/hr is considered rich to you but........I'm sure there's foreign talent willing to work for $14 to replace the Indians....say Mexicans....and then Chinese willing to work for $13 to replace the Mexicans....eventually we get down to India's lowest caste who will work for a pastry.

Too many people make money by loaning money anyway. I see that political pundit Karl Rove got laid off from Faux News. Blame Romney. People like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck never work anyway.

Too many people make money by loaning money anyway. I see that political pundit Karl Rove got laid off from Faux News. Blame Romney. People like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck never work anyway. Just how many people should make money by loaning money? Should everyone just spend their money frivolously? If everyone spent all of their money and didn't save and invest for their future, just who would provide for them? We all can't work for the government, and most union jobs are with corporations, the same corporations that are vilified on this very board. Don't you see how it is a benefit to our economy, and therefore to society in general to have individuals invest in, (loan money to) corporations? Corporations provide jobs, and if there is no profit motivation, there will be no investments in the corporations that provide the jobs. I think the more people making money by loaning money the better we are. I don't know what might qualify for work in your mind, but Rush Limbaugh's, and Glen Beck's shows don't prepare themselves. If you think it's easy there's nothing stopping you from trying, yet.

People are smarter with their money than to give it to a bunch of filthy bankers and listen to the BS that spews forth from their gaping maws.

Most of the citi layoffs are in global banking, not in the US business. Citi is getting out of banking in several countries and actually focusing more on the US.
Basic problem is all these banks are ridiculously oversized dinosaurs with extremely large overhead carries and far, far too many people. They are all just too big. In 1985 BofA had 100 bil in total assets, now they have 2 trillion. The largest 10 banks have 12 trillion in assets. During the 80's and 90's the 200 largest banks went through an orgy of buying each other and became the 10 largest banks.
Even Sandy Weil (who was the CEO and architect of all the Citi mergers in the 80's and 90's) admitted a few months ago that all those Citi acquisitions/mergers were a mistake...and it might be best (for the stockholders) to break the thing up into pieces.
The most efficient banking structures we ever had were regional banks. But all over the country regional banks all got bought up in 80's and early 90's by the big ones. Same thing happened all over the county.
Banking in the northwest was dominated by regional banks up until the 90's..they all got bought up, SeaFirst, Rainer, Puget Sound Natl Bank, Peoples, West One, US Bank etc. US Bank has the same name it always had but in 1997 it was bought by First Banks out of Minneaplis but they chose to keep the US Bank name.
For economic issues the size of these big banks scares the hell out of me. It is such an enormous concentration of risk to out economy. Additionally, they are so inefficient they have to gouge the customers (us) or take insane risks to make money.
Thats one of our economic problems that politicians dont know how to address..our banking structure is still a mess.
Unfortunately, banks in other countries are just as screwed up, they are also too big. By our accounting standards, the banks in China are toast and maybe Europe too.

"The bank announced 96,500 job cuts from 2007 to 2011, behind only the U.S. government and General Motors for layoff announcements, according to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc, which tracks U.S. layoffs."
If you want to find an example of why local banks were bought out in the 80's, the S&L crisis, do a search on "Neil Bush" and "S&L" and you'll find out why he is the one brother who can never run for office. They put a target on his back but unethical banking runs all the way back to gramps in that family.

The bank merger mania in the 80's and 90's the champ was Hugh McColl and what started out as the North Carolina Natl Bank (NCNB). NCNB bought up everything in sight in the 80's including most of Texas (Republic, FNB Dallas, M Bank, Midland) plus Citizens and Southern, Sun Banks, Maryland NB etc. etc. I've forgotten all the names. NCNB changed its name to Nationsbank and culminated in buying BofA in 1997. Insane really but Mccoll saw it all coming. The original NCNB was a middling Regional with 30 bil in assets and now the descendent (BofA) has 2 tril in assets.
Thus BofA is now HQ in Charlotte and Charlotte is one of the banking capitals in the US. The most insane acqusitions of all time is when BofA bought Countrywide Mtge and then Merrill Lynch around 2005-6. Both were loaded to the hilt with subprime mtges and toxic CMOs. Ken Lewis is the biggest idiot in the history of finance.
I dont think anyone has ever written a book about NCNB but I wish somebody would.
Its all nuts!
