I was raised on Rainier but hate it now. Then I tried the old Schlitz and then Henry's during my time at Wazzu. Thursday night buck pitcher night at Rathskellars in Moscow.
Then I tried the Kemper beers. Dad got grain from them then we would go Pike Place at their old location on Western, they would give us beer for picking up grain. Love their amber ale. Now the grain comes from Silver City and they produce lots of grain recently. Like the Ridgetop Red. I'm not a big fan of the IPAs as they are a little strong and hoppy. Guiness and most of the porters are good in my opinion. Not much of a Belgian beer fan even though dad is Belgian. I like Mexican beers like Pacifico or Dos Equis.
Fishing beer is Bud Light but used to be the cheap Natural Light or Milwaukee's Best. Dad in Law used to drink Miller High Life but switched to BL. Game warden called him Mr. Miller and wrote him a bogus littering ticket but a few years ago he told him he was one of the best if not the best fisherman on the river. Always have BL on ice in the back of our trucks when fishing for summeruns. Also hide a cooler in the brush and shade nearby where I fish and restock. Good place to keep bait, something to eat, and even keep a fish cool. Dennis saw me coming out of the brush with a cold one and was amazed but he doesn't drink at least on the river. Last summer Chet turned me on to the BL Chelada.
I like the Elyssian Men's Room, Mac and Jack, and Manny's. Sound Brewing makes a great O'Reagan's Red and the Belgian Dubble is tasty but too filling.

This thread is making me thirsty.
Todd- We got Leinenkugel(sp?) at Fred Meyers last summer. Not sure if they have it now, but they are pretty good.
We have a lot of beer snobs around here. Which is cool, I pretty much don't like Miller stuff, but if Brewer is correct I guess I do because I enjoy PBR and Rainier, especially when fishing.
Last weekend I got a clam digging themed present at at White Elephant gift exchange. Part of it was a 4-pack of Budlight/clam/tomato juice "Cheladas". I have 3.85 of to give away if any of you like them.

i was going to school at SPSCC right after the brewery shut down. lots of displaced workers in there with funny stories from work. that's where i learned that keystone light and coors light were the same thing. supposedly "sparks" was the nastiest thing to clean up after, as the vats would be filled with green slime afterward.
as for me, i can handle IPAs but would never call it my favorite beer style. give me an imperial stout any day!

Being partial to the heavily hopped varieties, Deschutes Hop Trip still holds #1 in my book, followed very closely by the Glacier Brew House's IPA.
Todd, spectacular summary, but in your mention of incredibly bad beers from the midwest, how could you omit Old Style? Hands down the worst attempt at beer I have ever encountered. To the credit of the midwest, Summit in MSP makes a pretty robust pale that is very similar to Sierra Nevada's but without a few of the flaws.

A few years ago, I was hunting elk down near Morton. It was unseasonably warm, and my partner and I had just come down off a big hill and were parched.
We drove by Glenoma, and stoped by the little convenience mart. We gathered up enough change to buy a couple Keystones. I took a swig, and it was soooo bad, I didn't want to drink it. I took a small sip to wet the whistle, and dumped the rest out. I would have chugged a PBR, Oly, or any number of other questionable brews.
Keystone is not beer, no matter what the label says.

There is a new bar in Woodinville I'd suggest you all try, it's called the Collective and has over 20 of the northwests finest crafts beers on tap. I had the Triplehorn Brewery's Nemesis Milk Stout the other night and it was the best tasting beer I have ever drank.I also hade some Blakely Brown from Bainbridge Brewery that was outstanding.

Seems like we've crushed the foreigners on beer and ale. American spirits aren't too shabby either. We make good bread now, too.
We still rule.

Gee, Brewer knows gay slang.
Shocking.

Stopped by Elliott Bay Pizza in Mill Creek for a take out and saw they had a bar now with about 20 very interesting microbrews on tap. Settled on a brew from North Sound Brewing called Creepy Monkey, 16%. Pretty good and didn't have a huge alcohol taste as I expected. When ya wanna hit the Diamond knot? When are you home ?

Diamond Knot = yummy.
Went to The Collective last night with SkyGuy on my way home from fishing, and had a few beers...but the standout was the WhoopAss Double IPA from...Silver something brewery?...out of Bremerton.
Double awesome, it was.
Fish on...
Todd

Todd - that's Silver City Brewery. That have two spots - a pub/resturant in Silverdale and a pub in Bremerton where they brew the beer. They did brew in Silverdale but as it has become more popular they moved the brewing to Bremerton by the car dealers and expanded the resturant. I've been going there since they opened and have never had a bad brew or food. I like the Bremerton pub better now since it's more casual pub than the Silverdale spot.
