Just wondering if anybody can tell me where my best bet is to hook a Steelhead(Flyfishing) from the bank on the Skagit and Sauk. I plan to give it a shot this weekend and it will be my first time.

Josh, Break out the Washington gazetteer and head on down, don't expect solitude. Both the Sauk and Skagit parallel the road for some bank access. Just look for steelhead holding water and fish it through. You can figure it out, part of the fun is figuring it out on your own and finding your own favorite spot, instead of someone telling you to fish spot X. If you want that hire a guide. Good luck.

Josh,

Sorry. Can't tell you exact spots to fish or all my former friends would thrash me soundly. And properly so.

Here's what I can tell you. You can see and easily drive to some of the good holding lies on the Sauk, so be observant and you should find suitable water. The Skagit is more problematic. Although the road is seldom far away, you usually cannot see the water you would fish from the roads. You need to be very observant, and a willingness to walk helps. The best bet for learning the Skagit is to float it, and that's not a bad way to learn the Sauk River, either. Quite frankly, these rivers are just complex enough that a good student could spend a couple weekends just exploring, without ever wetting a line, and discerning where it may be productive to fish.

Good luck.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Try the mouth of the Suittle (spelling) on the sauk and just down river from there is the gov bridge. Walk down stream from the bridge. I hope you nail em!
