I'm headed out this Sunday morning for some bank fishing for the wiley steelhead. If you were me would you go to the Skookumchuck, Cowlitz, Wynoochee, or Kalama? Or would you recommend someplace different. I'll be driving from Puyallup and probably the streams mentioned are at the far end of the amount of driving that I want to do. Your thoughts and suggestions are very welcome. Thanks

Cowlitz= slow fishing, tons of people, unless you have a boat, then it's just slow.

Skookumchuck= it looks to be in pretty decent shape right now, which means that damn near everyone who somehow didn't go to the Cowlitz is lined up at the hatchery by the dam (damn?).

Wynooche= in spite of the huge crowds at the Cowlitz and at the hatchery at the Skook, everyone with a boat has been on the Nooch lately. However, if you have a boat, success has been good. If you're on the bank, have a good hole in mind and get there early so as to hit it before the 37 boats are through it.

Kalama= fishing has been OK, looks to be in good shape (second had report), and there's always room to find a few holes to yourself, if you don't mind walking.

Kalama would be my river of choice in SW Wash this weekend, but the Satsop would be a close second. Fishing has been pretty good, and there's a ton of bank access. I've also heard of some fish being caught in the upper Chehalis near Pe Ell, not a ton of fish, but some real pigs this time of year.

As JK noted, however, if you can gut it out, hit the coast. Can't be beat.

Good luck, and Fish on....
Todd.
