Get some .22 gallery ammunition; it is subsonic so very little noise and not a lot of poop to the round, but maybe enough to do what you want done.

Slab, those coyotes have something more in mind than teasing your dog's, there befreinding your dog's to lead them off into the woods to the rest of the pac to make a meal out of them, seen this happen up in Granit falls to a friend of mine,

the .22 short is approaching low level .22 long rifle impact pressure... you likely will end up penetrating the coyote... if anything i would go with a .22 CB, gallery ammuntion can be extremely expensive... CBs are cheap, and you can find them just about anywhere that sells ammo... even Walmart still has boxes of them left...

CB's poop out quick, but will still sting from 50 yards away...
