Does anybody have a report on the Cowlitz. I see that the water came up agian. I've never fished the Cowlitz for salmon and onlt 2x for stellies. What are they using and where? I really wanna take my dad out for his B-day tomorrow and get him into some fish. am thinking about that or the Satsop. any info would be nice. We will be fishing from my Drift boat.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

dcrz,
I wouldn't bother with the Satsop, it's on its way out, and it's still raining over there.
I don't think the higher water will help the bite any on the Cowlitz, either. The drift from the barrier dam to the trout hatchery is decent, but I guess the silvers have been finicky and the change in water level can't be good.
If you're desperate, I'd think the rivers up on the Canal (Duckabush, Dosey) would still be fishable with decent numbers of chums. Maybe worth a try...............?

I myself was going to hit the Satsop, but it looks like it is going up and I know how it goes out fast. Still raining hard here in the harbor. Our PSA club had a Blackmouth outing planned for Port Townsend but with the winds knocking the ball around at the Apple cup, I think I will pass. It is either the Cowlitz or the canal for chums or maybe making "points to be redeemed during steelhead season" by staying home with the wife and kids. Probably end up fishing! LOL

dcrzfitter: The number to the Barrier Dam Tackle shop is 206-985-2495. How about a report when you get back? Good luck Duck.

We were headed to the Zipperlip, but when I checked the internet at 5 AM, it was on it's way out so instead we fished the Cowlitz on Saturday. My fishing buddy and I managed to land 5 jacks and one bright adult about 7 pounds just below the barrier dam deadline. A few other anglers caught a mix of adults and jacks, most were pretty dark. Vibrax #4 & 5 spinners, drift gear, or bobber & eggs were taking fish. We also walked in to Blue Creek in the afternoon and saw one summer and one winter fish taken, very slow. River courtesy and conditions (cheek to cheek fishing, people using side plainers in the slots and abandoning their rods, casting over lines, etc.) on the Cowlitz was typical, I won't go back again unless everything else is blown out. Maybe midweek would be better?

Didn't make it. Talked to some one who drove over the river at Toledo and said it wasn't looking good. kinda a strange color. The weather reports said it was going to be like yesterday so we just decided to stay home and then this afternoon we knew we should have given it a shot but that's the way it goes. probably won't get out till after late archery season. Just intime for the winter steelies.

Fished the Barrier dam today. Saw some silvers taken. All were caught near the boundary but most were pretty dark. I had 2 shake the hook. Vibrax spinners in fire tiger, orange/brass blade, and blue/silver blade caught most of the fish.
